Lubina

Lubina brings together a rural landscape, regional history, and routes to Veľká Javorina in a compact area. In the village of Barina, FarmaPARK Lubina offers direct contact with animals of miniature breeds. This provides travelers with both nature and winter sports themes as well as museums, cultural monuments, and the area's distinctive history to consider when planning their trip.

Veľká Javorina and routes through the landscape

A notable outdoor route is the Chodník kpt. Miloša Uhra, an 11.8-kilometer hiking trail to Veľká Javorina. Veľká Javorina is also home to a ski resort at an elevation of 905 meters above sea level. The cross-country ski trails around Veľká Javorina are connected to the Moravian side and to Stará Myjava. This makes it possible to identify different forms of winter experiences without presenting them as a single unified offering.

Cyclists and hikers can also make use of a wide-ranging connection: the Básnická stezka, established jointly with Kunovice, is more than 60 kilometers long. Its starting point is on Javorina; it can be used on foot or by bicycle. Lubina's agriculturally shaped landscape is characterized by a dispersed settlement pattern, meadows, pastures, and arable land. It also contains preserved fruit trees, shrubs, and orchards with old, rare varieties of service trees, pears, apples, and plums.

Záhradská is documented as a separately designated protected area. The nature reserve was designated by Order MK SSR No. 63/1984-32 of April 30, 1984; the designation took effect on May 1, 1984. The Slávnosti bratstva Čechov a Slovákov are held annually on Veľká Javorina. Folk music groups, folklore ensembles, and country groups from both sides of the border perform there. The festivities usually center on the area around Holubyho chata.

Museums, monuments, and regional heritage

The Rodný dom Samuela Štúra Museum comprises four exhibitions. Their themes include Samuel Štúr and the Štúrs from Lubina; J. Ľ. Holuby; regional history, culture, and traditional costumes; as well as the world wars, the Slovak National Uprising under Veľká Javorina, the foreign resistance, and American airmen. The museum is dedicated to Jozef Ľudovít Holuby, who lived from 1836 to 1923, was born in Lubina, and was an evangelical pastor and a botanist of world renown.

The parsonage next to the evangelical church in Lubina was built at the same time as the church and is now a cultural monument. The new parsonage was built in 1909 under the direction of architect Milan Harminc. Another historical point of reference is the Rodný dom kapitána Miloša Uhra, which is associated with Miloš Uher (1914–1945), commander of the Hurban partisan unit. Memorial ceremonies are held at the monument every August.

The Lubina dialect dictionary is part of the area's linguistic and social heritage. It contains more than 2,700 dialect words, a register of field names, descriptions of the preparation of traditional dishes, recollections, records of old wedding songs, and traditional nicknames. A specific example of local event culture is the 13th edition of the Podkozinská vareška goulash-cooking competition: it was organized on August 2, 2025, by Správa vodovodu Lubina-Podkozince under the direction of Branislav Znachor.

Getting there and further orientation

Lubina can be reached by car or bus. Parking is available in front of the Pamätný dom. Road II/581 connects Lubina with Nové Mesto nad Váhom and Stará Turá.
