Krajné brings together scattered settlements, marked hiking trails, and a distinctive regional culture. This gives you an insight into the Myjava Hills: landscape and village structure are just as central here as churches, music, and the tradition of bobbin lace.

Landscape between the Myjava Hills and the Little Carpathians

Krajné lies in the southeastern part of the Myjava Hills, on the border with the Little Carpathians. Its characteristic feature is the widely scattered settlement structure typical of the Kopaničiarska region. The municipality contains 44 scattered Kopaničiarska settlements. This form of settlement is connected with traditional forms of land management; the ecosystems that developed over centuries are considered particularly important ecologically. Anyone wishing to understand Krajné not merely as a single village center but as a broad and diverse cultural and landscape area will find a particularly clear perspective here.

Two marked trails with different landscapes

The documented hiking trails show two different sides of the municipality. The blue-marked Čachtický hrad–Šípkové hiking trail runs along the southeastern edge of Krajné’s municipal territory, over the ridge of the Čachtice Carpathians. At the northwestern edge of the cadastral area, by contrast, the green-marked hiking trail between Mohyla pod Bradlom and Stará Turá passes through the traditional Myjava Kopaničiarska cultural landscape. When planning a trip, this makes it possible to view the wooded ridge of the Čachtice Carpathians and the cultural landscape shaped by scattered settlements as distinct ways of experiencing the area, without presenting them as a single hiking region.

Churches, music, and Krajné lace art

One of the defining buildings is the Gothic Roman Catholic Church of Saint Michael the Archangel in Krajné, which was built around the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. Narrow, steep stone stairs lead to its tower. “Reconstruction” is listed as the monument-preservation measure for the church. The Evangelical Church of Krajné was consecrated in 1784 and adds another religious landmark to the historic character of the village. The regional culture extends beyond architecture. Krajnianska muzika currently presents traditional music and musical instruments, including the cimbalom. Krajnianska čipka represents a distinct cultural tradition: the tradition of bobbin-made tulle lace in the Myjava Hills dates back to the 1880s. At that time, two lacemakers from Vamberk in the Czech lands taught women in Krajné how to make lace using Flemish and Vamberk patterns. Krajnianska paličkovaná čipka developed distinctive motifs and became a characteristic decorative element of the festive and ceremonial clothing of girls and women. Local events are also part of this cultural context. Krajnianska prúdnica is an annual afternoon of competitions and entertainment organized by the Krajné Volunteer Fire Brigade. In this way, the village presents itself not only as a landscape destination, but also as a place where crafts, music, community life, and religious architectural history come together.
