Stará Myjava: Cycling Routes, Reservoir and Winter Sports

Stará Myjava offers cycling routes, a reservoir, educational trails and winter sports. Part of the cadastral territory lies within the White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area. The protected area of the Myjava River, which has been designated a natural monument, also encompasses the cadastral territory of the municipality. The Stará Myjava Reservoir was built on the Myjava River within the cadastral territory of the municipality. A forestry educational trail with nine information panels is located at the reservoir. Another educational trail is located in the Slovak-Moravian border region and has nine information stations about the natural treasures, fauna and flora of the Myjava Hills and the White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area. The longest educational trail in this border region is 18.298 kilometres long and runs along existing field and forest paths. These two different routes offer a choice between a thematically organized trail by the reservoir and an 18.298-kilometre route through field and forest landscapes.

Cycling with nature and historical experiences

For cyclists, the Staromyjavská Greenway is a clearly described option. The blue-marked cycling route is 15.3 kilometres long and has the difficulty rating “Recreation”. It connects Myjava, Brestovec, Kadlecovci and Stará Myjava and leads to the Stará Myjava Reservoir.

The Krivosudy cycling route offers a different focus. It leads to the SNP Monument and restored partisan bunkers from the Second World War. It then runs through the forest above Skiland Stará Myjava. Stará Myjava also has restored underground partisan bunkers commemorating the founding of the II Stalin Partisan Brigade and the 1944 Slovak National Uprising.
