Kostolné lies between two mountain ranges, and the Kostolník stream flows through the village. The landscape and local history take centre stage: hiking trails in the cadastral area lead to Veľká Javorina, while the Evangelical church in the centre is a landmark of the municipality. Other traces range from a cremation cemetery dating to the Late Bronze Age to historic encounters in the 19th century. Kostolné thus combines natural features with a history reflected in different places and themes.

Landscape and trails

The Kostolník flows through the village; the Dubník I and Dubník II water reservoirs lie along its upper course. The stream and reservoirs thus mark different sections of the waterway. A detailed tourist map of the area can help you find your way if you want to explore beyond Kostolné.

Numerous hiking trails run through the cadastral area of Kostolné and lead to Veľká Javorina. This gives your hiking plans a specific destination within the municipality. Check route conditions before setting out, as they may change.

Cycling and seasonal activities

Two cycling routes offer different options: a route running through Kostolné beneath Javorina connects Vaďovce and Stará Turá, while a short yellow circular route connects the Dubník recreation centre with Kostolné. When planning, you can choose between a connection linking two places and a short loop. Route conditions and markings may change, so check them before setting out.

The Dubník I and Dubník II recreation centres offer opportunities for summer and winter sports. This range of seasonal activities may therefore play a part in choosing when to travel. Specific facilities may change.

Local cultural history

The Evangelical church in the centre of Kostolné is a landmark of the municipality; it dates back to 1785. This date provides a specific historical anchor for the village. Another period is represented by the cremation cemetery of the Lusatian culture from the Late Bronze Age, also located in Kostolné. Visitors interested in cultural history can therefore find archaeological traces and a prominent church building from very different periods side by side.

The Hrubá skala natural formation lies on the boundary between the municipalities of Kostolné and Hrašné. In 1848–1849, Pastor Trokan met J. M. Hurban and Ľudovít Štúr there. This place thus combines a striking natural formation with a specific episode in local history.

Another place associated with the municipality’s history is the Pamätný dom. It originated as a long-uninhabited, dilapidated house and preserves its traditional character. Traditional clothing also reflects different cultural connections: in Kostolné, the so-called Lubina style of traditional dress was worn, while the Myjava style was widespread in the Kopanice region. These two associations offer a glimpse into the region’s different traditions.
