Haláčovce Between Waterscapes and Local History

Haláčovce is located in the northern part of the Danubian Upland and combines a clearly recognizable waterscape with a long settlement history. If you are looking for a place with fishing connections, regional landscapes and historical traces for your trip to Slovakia, you will find several different points of interest here. The Haláčovka stream flows through Haláčovce. It belongs to the sub-basin of the Bebrava River and thus shapes the water-related character of the village. Another prominent point of reference is the Vodná nádrž Haláčovce reservoir. It was built between 1987 and 1990 in the cadastral area of the municipality, covers a water surface of 15.75 hectares and serves for water retention. For understanding the landscape, it is also important that in the area of Haláčovce, only remnants of low stands with pine trees remain from the oak-hornbeam forests. The combination of the stream and reservoir thus extends from a flowing watercourse in the Bebrava sub-basin to the 15.75-hectare water surface.

Reservoir and Fishing

VN Haláčovce is designated as carp fishing ground 2-4730-1-1. Guest fishing permits are issued for the fishing ground; VN Haláčovce is also included in the association-wide fishing permit. There is a specific documented restriction regarding access: only a paved-panel road is approved as the access road to VN Haláčovce. This requirement is part of the practical guidance for the fishing ground and should be taken into account when planning. However, it does not automatically describe any other access or facility features.

Traces from the Neolithic to the Middle Ages

Haláčovce also has a remarkable historical dimension. Ceramic finds provide evidence of settlement as early as the Neolithic period, as well as from the 9th to the 15th century. Haláčovce is first mentioned in writing in 1407. The village therefore represents not only a present-day waterside landscape, but also a settlement history documented over a long period. The Haláčovce-Otrhánky church was built in the vicinity of Haláčovce around the 11th to 12th century. It was originally a single-nave Romanesque church with a semicircular apse. The church grounds are freely accessible. Visiting the church interior, however, requires prior arrangement. If you would like to visit this historic site, the freely accessible exterior and the interior, which can only be visited by prior arrangement, are therefore clearly distinct.

Local Culinary Connection

Haláčovce is also associated with a local food-related topic: “Haláčovský šúľanec” was a publicly announced cooking competition with a tasting of Šúľance held in Haláčovce. The Municipality of Haláčovce organized this cooking and tasting competition on August 31, 2024, and August 16, 2025, at the football pitch in Haláčovce.
