Church and Historic Works of Art

A central landmark is the Church of Saint Elizabeth. The Neo-Romanesque church was built in 1897 on the site of a Gothic chapel founded in 1255. Inside is a Baroque polychrome wood carving of the Crucifixion dating from 1749. The church's uniquely designed interior is another of its defining features.

The village also features two statues with distinct historical backgrounds. The statue of Saint Urban was erected more than 100 years ago, restored, and consecrated in 1999. It is a symbol of winemaking in Podlužany and thus forms a direct link to the vineyards in the cadastral area. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands at the crossroads toward Hronské Kosihy. It was restored in 1933 and restored again in the 1990s. In the past, it was believed to protect the municipality from the Podlužianka stream overflowing. This belief expressly belongs to an earlier tradition and should not be understood as a present-day protective function.

Traditional Festivals and Events

The cultural side of Podlužany is also reflected in commemorative events and community customs. The Jozef and Vladimír Šebovec and Anton Harmady Memorial has been held continuously for 45 years. The Ing. Jozef Kováč Memorial is documented as a recurring youth football tournament; its 23rd edition took place on July 2, 2023. The two memorials represent different forms of public remembrance: one has been continued for decades, while the other combines remembrance with a youth tournament.

Traditional festivals include Dožinky, a celebration marking the end of the harvest. On the last night of April, decorated maypoles were erected in Podlužany in front of the girls' houses after the girls had first been splashed with water; another maypole stood in the center of the village. After church, communal singing and dancing formed part of the traditional celebration. The traditional home slaughter also had its established place, including the preparation of sausages and the cooking of Hurky and Obary.

Further links to the local festival culture are planned as municipal events: Christmas markets are accordingly planned in Podlužany. On May 6, 2017, a Vatra vďaky was to be lit on Pinkovka Hill. This date refers to a past plan and is not an indication of a current event date.
