Ondrejovce
Accommodation in Ondrejovce
Ondrejovce combines architectural and local history with clear guidance for cyclists. The village lies east of the foothills of the Pohronská pahorkatina uplands, in a broad valley of the Hron; the Ondrejovský Stream flows through Ondrejovce. This gives you two specific points of focus when planning your trip: cultural history and cycling routes that pass through the village. These different themes can help you decide what you would like to focus on during your stay.
Church and Local History
The Church of Saint Andrew the Apostle dates back to the 14th century and was built in the Gothic style. It was remodeled in the Baroque style in 1753, and the church was rebuilt in its present form in 1810. Since 2016, it has been designated a national cultural monument. This sequence brings together several phases of construction: its Gothic origins, the Baroque remodeling and the 1810 reconstruction. If you are interested in architecture, this development offers a specific way to explore the history of Ondrejovce without associating the church with just one period.
The permanent historical exhibition “The Past and Present of the Municipality of Ondrejovce” opened on July 3, 2016, in a multipurpose building in the park next to the cultural center. It presents manor houses and curias that no longer exist, as well as the economic and administrative activities of the families who lived in Ondrejovce. It therefore focuses not only on buildings but also on the lives and work of these families. To arrange a visit, you can contact János Luky; confirm the contact before your arrival.
Skalka adds another dimension to this picture in its own way: Viktor Benkovich had the artificial ruin built in the 1930s. Its origins therefore differ from the church’s construction history. Here, the focus is specifically on the deliberately created ruin as part of local history.
Cycling and Landscape
The blue MERIDIEM cycling route passes through Ondrejovce and is suitable for mountain bikers. Route 8103 Levice–Bardoňovo also passes through the village and is classified as an easy recreational route for mountain bikes. Route 8103 is classified as an easy recreational route for mountain bikes; MERIDIEM is suitable for mountain bikers. If you plan to ride either route, check its course in advance.
The location in the broad valley of the Hron and the Ondrejovský Stream flowing through the village provide a specific landscape setting for cycling. Together with the church, the exhibition and Skalka, they create a picture of the village that can be explored through its landscape, architectural history and routes through Ondrejovce.
Chapel on the Western Edge of the Village
On the western edge of the village, on the main road to Dolný Pial, there is a chapel that has been designated a national cultural monument since 2015. The chapel grounds are freely accessible; confirm access locally before your visit. The chapel can therefore be seen as another site of cultural history, while a visit to the exhibition should be arranged in advance.
