Culture and Local Character

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, “Kostol Narodenia Panny Márie”, stands in Teplička as an important cultural monument. Originally, it was a single-nave Gothic building from the first quarter of the 14th century. Its documented building history therefore dates back to a time when the church was still designed as a single-nave structure. The rebuilt tower has Gothic paired windows with trefoil tracery. This detail makes the architectural design more specific than a general description as a Gothic building and provides a clear cultural reference point within Teplička.

The folklore ensemble Tepličan is also part of the cultural and social life of the village. It takes part in cultural and social events in Teplička and the surrounding area. In addition, the Stations of the Cross, “Krížová cesta”, are located in the northwestern part of Teplička. The church, folklore ensemble and Stations of the Cross thus represent different aspects of the village: architectural history, living culture and a named route section within the municipality.

Mountainous Landscape and Hiking Trails

The municipal area of Teplička is mountainous and shaped by the last foothills of the Volovské vrchy mountains. The circular hiking route SR27 “Na vrchol Pálenice” is designated as a hike lasting 8 hours and 45 minutes, with an elevation gain of 675 metres.

The SR27 “Na vrchol Pálenice” begins and ends at the SAD bus stop, the ŽSR railway stop or the car park in Teplička. Its route leads from Teplička through the valley of the Teplický Brusník, mostly through woodland. For orientation, both the specific starting and ending points and the character of the landscape along the route are therefore identified. In addition to this circular hike, a hiking route is listed that begins at the Teplička nad Hornádom stop and runs via Pod Tepličkou.

Cycling Between Valley and Ascent

Teplička also appears in different contexts on cycling routes. Cycle route 8922 “Madaras – Pod Tepličkou – Roveň” follows the Brusník valley to the cottage settlement near Teplička and then climbs towards Roveň.

Cycle loop 4 runs from Spišská Nová Ves via Markušovce, Oľšo, Hnilčík, Bindt, Teplička and Pod Tepličkou back to Spišská Nová Ves. Here, Teplička is part of a longer circular route with several explicitly named places. When comparing hiking and cycling, you will therefore find both a route with woodland and valley sections and cycling routes that place Teplička within a larger route network.
