Pavčina Lehota: Demänovská Valley, Žiarce and Jelšie

Pavčina Lehota at the Entrance to the Demänovská Valley

Pavčina Lehota is located at the entrance to the Demänovská Valley. The village is associated with nature, winter sports, family-friendly experiences and historical traces. The village can be reached by car or bus. This gives it a clear geographical connection to the destinations described: some are located directly in Pavčina Lehota, while others lie south, northeast or close to the village.

Hiking, Cross-Country Skiing and Views of the Landscape

The Náučný turistický chodník Pavčina Lehota educational hiking trail is suitable for hiking. In winter, a cross-country skiing track is prepared on this educational trail. The trail therefore represents two different seasonal forms of travel, without its use being limited to one season.

A special connection with nature is provided by the Jelšie protected area. It lies northeast of Pavčina Lehota on the Demänovka floodplain and covers 26.10 ha. The area preserves an ash-alder forest community. The woodland consists of coppiced alder with scattered spruce and ash trees. The protected area lies at approximately 670 to 690 m above sea level. The Dlhý okruh around Pavčina Lehota includes an interesting section along Jelšie. In addition, the Vyhliadková veža lookout tower in Pavčina Lehota offers views of the surrounding landscape.

Žiarce: Toboggan Run and Ski Areas

For families and active travellers, the Bobová dráha Žiarce is a standalone attraction. The track is 1,000 m long and suitable for adults as well as children aged seven and over. It was also the first track of its kind in Slovakia. The age requirement is a specific distinction compared with a leisure attraction described in general terms.

Winter sports are also represented in Žiarce by several documented offerings. Evening illuminated skiing is possible in the SKI Žiarce ski area, which also has a ski school. Separate from this is the Sport & Relax Žiarce ski area. It is located in Pavčina Lehota at the entrance to the Demänovská Valley and has two downhill runs with a total length of 1,130 m.

Castles, Hillforts and the Bell Tower

South of Pavčina Lehota, Hradisko is located in the Low Tatras on Mount Opálenisko. It is an Iron Age hillfort with rampart fortifications. The Hradisko Zámček hillfort is also located near Pavčina Lehota. Its northeastern part forms an acropolis and served as a small castle complex in the Early Middle Ages, in the 13th century. Hradisko Zámček was declared a cultural monument on 27 October 1967.

A visible testament to the local architectural and cultural history is the wooden bell tower of Pavčina Lehota. It was built in 1883, is designated as a cultural monument and remains an original log construction with carved sound openings. Thus, alongside the landscape and winter sports destinations, a single historic building in the village represents another side of Pavčina Lehota.
