Klubina between the Kysucké vrchy and Slovenské Beskydy

Klubina lies at the transition between the Kysucké vrchy and the Slovenské Beskydy, in the valley of the Bystrica River. The village therefore combines a clearly defined landscape setting with cultural, historical, and religious sites. The different focus of the experiences is also interesting for planning your trip: you can explore the natural environment, local history, chapels, and a section of the Kysucká Cyklomagistrála separately.

Landscape between Mountains and River

The highest point in Klubina’s cadastral area is Veľká Rača, at 1,236 m, in the Klubinská dolina. This elevation refers to the cadastral area, not the village centre. The Klubinský potok Nature Reserve is located within the same geographical setting. The stream that gives the reserve its name flows into the Bystrica River from the right near Klubina.

Stations of the Cross, Chapels, and Religious History

A notable cultural and historical landmark is the Stations of the Cross, which runs along the access road from the wooden bell tower to the Chapel of the Divine Mercy. In the lower part of Klubina, there is also a wayside cross erected in 1911 with relief sculptures of Saint Joseph, the Virgin Mary, and Saint Francis. The religious monuments are thus spread across different sites in the village and should not be treated as a single complex.

The Chapel of Panny Márie – Povýšky (Povišky) is also part of the area’s religious history. The statue of the Virgin Mary in the chapel dates from 1869. The residents of Klubina rebuilt the chapel in 1961; it was renovated in 1990. Every year, around the Feast of Our Lady, Queen, on 22 August, worshippers from Klubina and the surrounding villages gather at this site. If you would like to visit Klubina on this religious occasion, you should understand the date as a special part of the village’s history, not as a generally available event calendar.

Watermill, Sawmill, and Museum

The local history of work and technology is also documented. Towards the end of the 19th century, a multifunctional building with a watermill and sawmill was constructed in Klubina. The basement housed drive mechanisms, a saw frame, a mill room, shingle production facilities, and a grain-sieving room. Today, the building belongs to the village’s history: the former building with a watermill and sawmill from Klubina is currently exhibited at the Múzeum kysuckej dediny in Vychylovka. In Klubina and at the museum in Vychylovka, you will therefore encounter different connections to this historic structure.

Cycling Route and Amphitheatre na Kamencoch

For an active connection between the villages, a relatively easy section of the Kysucká Cyklomagistrála is listed, leading from Nová Bystrica to Klubina. A pavilion was also built in Klubina at the Amphitheatre na Kamencoch. It is part of the cultural and recreational complex “Výstavba amfiteátra na Kamencoch v Klubine” and is located near the Bystrická cyklomagistrála. The cycling route and the pavilion are therefore two named but differently described attractions in the village.
