Pliesovce: Springs, Church and Landscape
Accommodation in Pliesovce
The municipality of Pliešovce covers the cadastral areas of Pliešovce and Zaježová. For planning your trip, this brings several aspects of the destination into focus: its basin setting and eastern ridge, the spring nature trail in Zaježová, as well as the church and archaeological traces. These specific points of reference can help you organise your nature and cultural interests for a stay in Pliesovce.
Basin Landscape and Javorie
Pliešovce lies in the southern part of the Pliešovská kotlina basin. On the eastern edge of Pliešovce, the ridge of the extinct Javorie volcano forms the boundary of the municipality. At 1,023.4 metres, Priečno is the highest point in the cadastral area of Pliešovce. This brings together different points of reference: the basin setting, a boundary along the ridge and a named highest point. If you are getting your bearings in a landscape by its features, this distinction is more helpful than a general description of the surroundings.
Zaježová: Spring Trail and Education
The Náučný studničkový chodník in Zaježová opened as a new educational trail in 2024 and links seven of the ten restored springs. This gives the nature theme a specific focus on springs and a named trail. Another focus is the Zaježová Education Centre, which offers experiential stays for schools. The spring trail and the education centre therefore appeal to different interests: the landscape and an education programme for schools.
The Sekier Eco-community is also located in Zaježová. It is a traditional farmstead; the community is inspired by the ecovillage movement, natural building and permaculture. This approach adds a communal and ecological dimension to Zaježová. It is distinct from the education centre’s programmes and the spring trail.
Architecture and Early History
The Evangelical church in Pliešovce was built and consecrated in 1927. Its unusual elliptical floor plan is a distinctive architectural feature. The year it was built and its floor plan offer two different ways of approaching the church: the date places its construction in time, while the elliptical shape draws attention to its architecture.
Another historical reference leads to Rimáň. A Bronze Age axe and a fragment of a bronze rosette fibula were found there in 1909. These archaeological finds represent a much earlier period than the construction of the church in 1927. Anyone interested in the municipality’s history can thus distinguish between archaeological traces and a specific historic building.
Falconry and Game Cuisine in the 2025 Programme
The 2025 programme for St Hubert’s Day included falconry demonstrations and a wild boar goulash cooking competition. That year, St Hubert’s Day also marked its 20-year tradition. The programme for that occasion brought falconry and game cuisine together in a cultural event with a clearly specified date. For trip planning, it should be viewed as a retrospective on 2025.
