Sliač combines spa history, distinctive buildings and a landscape shaped by the Hron. If you are looking for a place in Slovakia where culture, healing springs and a self-guided tour come together, you will find several clearly distinct points of interest here.

Cultural Monuments and Traces of Notable Personalities

A central cultural landmark is the Roman Catholic Church of St. Nicholas. This Early Gothic monument features a 13th-century bell tower. The church is also home to one of the oldest and largest bells in Slovakia. Thus, both medieval architectural history and a remarkable individual object are represented in one place.

Other buildings include the Bezegh family manor house, an Early Renaissance monument, and the Chapel of St. Hildegard, which is classified as a Neoclassical monument. The spa park and several spa buildings belonging to Kúpele Sliač are also classified as national cultural monuments of Slovakia. The town therefore presents its history not only through a single building, but across different periods and in connection with its spa tradition.

An additional cultural trace leads along the “Path of Famous People.” The town’s visitor platform lists the names Andrej Sládkovič, Božena Němcová, Eva Matejková and Štefan Hudák. The Náučný chodník mestom Sliač connects several of these points of interest: it runs from Sládkovičova Street via the Church of St. Nicholas to the spa facilities’ healing mineral springs and the Chapel of St. Hildegard.

The Hron, Meadows and Rolling Hills

The Hron flows through Sliač and divides the town into two spatially separate parts. In the western part of the town, gently rolling meadows merge into the foothills of the Kremnica Mountains. Thus, the town encompasses a river landscape, open meadows and the transition to the rolling hills.

Thermal Bath and Self-Guided Educational Trail

The Termálne kúpalisko Kúpele Sliač uses carbon-dioxide-rich water directly from the spa’s healing spring. The water temperature is 28 to 32°C. The bathing complex includes a pool for adults and a small round children’s pool. The grounds also feature a volleyball court and a small football pitch; four tennis courts are located immediately next to them.

The Náučný chodník mestom Sliač is a self-guided, linear walking trail that can be followed in both directions and is open year-round. This distinguishes it from visiting individual buildings: you follow a designated route through the town, can choose your own direction and view the church, mineral springs and chapel along one continuous trail.

Getting Your Bearings

The Sliač Tourist Information Centre provides information on hiking and cycling routes. It also looks up train and bus connections for visitors. This information point complements the town’s general orientation with practical details about routes and public transport, without requiring you to commit to just one way of visiting.
