Muránska Zdychava combines a strong connection with hiking with the history and architectural culture of the Middle Gemer region. The place is particularly interesting if you want to combine a route with a clearly identifiable destination and insights into a traditional settlement landscape. Trails, historic wooden houses and the Ľudový dom give Muránska Zdychava a variety of distinct facets.

Hiking between the Rudná magistrála and National Park access points

The Rudná magistrála is a hiking trail in central Slovakia. It connects Zlaté Moravce, Banská Štiavnica and Detva with the area of Muránska planina National Park and ends at Mount Stolica. Muránska Zdychava is a hub of trails connected to the access points to the actual National Park area near Predná Hora.

One specific option is the green-marked Červená Skala–Muránska Zdychava route, numbered 5739. It leads via Strateník, Šumiacka priehyba, Severná lúka, Chata Janka and Horáreň Karafová before reaching Muránska Zdychava. The route is 21 km long and is maintained by KST.

Another connection leads from Muránska Huta to Muránska Zdychava. This route reaches the village at its endpoint after 6.0 km, bears the number 2869 and is also maintained by KST. In connection with the Rudná magistrála, Muránska Zdychava and Muránska Huta are described as the last municipalities for developing infrastructure for hikers along this trail. The two routes mentioned therefore offer different documented connections: a 21 km route from Červená Skala and a 6.0 km connection from Muránska Huta.

Dispersed settlement and traditional wooden houses

The local history also shapes the character of Muránska Zdychava. The settlement originated in connection with Wallachian colonization; the name Muránska Zdychava first appears in written sources in 1611. The dispersed settlement pattern typical of Kopaničiarska settlements is also characteristic. This refers to a type of settlement in which houses do not stand together as a compact village structure but are scattered throughout the landscape.

Several original wooden houses have been preserved, especially in the hamlet of Kokavka. The Ľudový dom offers a focused introduction to the folk architecture of the Middle Gemer region. The well-maintained wooden house is open to visitors and tourists interested in this architectural culture. Inside, there is an exhibition featuring original traditional interior furnishings. The house thus complements the hiking trails with a cultural attraction devoted to a clearly defined subject.

Zdychavské skalky

Zdychavské skalky is also part of the local landscape. The area lies within the cadastral territory of the municipality of Muránska Zdychava and is designated as a protected area. It covers 25,400 m². Its precise area and protected status make Zdychavské skalky an independently named landscape feature within the municipality.
