Discover Muránska Lehota
Natural surroundings and hiking trail
Muránska Lehota lies in the valley of the Lehotský potok stream and provides a clearly defined gateway to nature and regional history. The cadastral area is located in the protected zone of Muránska planina National Park. This makes the village part of a landscape whose protected status is just as relevant when planning a trip as the specific trails and cultural traces found on site.
The Cesta Márie Széchy hiking trail runs through Muránska Lehota. It connects the castles of Fiľakovo and Muráň, creating a clearly named route between two historic destinations. The legend of Muránska Venuša is also associated with the trail. This gives you a hiking experience in which not only the route itself but also its narrative connection to the surrounding area plays a role. An entrance point to the national park in the centre of Muráň can be reached in 30 minutes.
Ponds and winter use
Two ponds in Muránska Lehota are among the area's distinctive points of reference. They are managed by the Slovak Anglers' Association. Fishing competitions are held at these ponds once a year. Their documented use is therefore not limited to a single season: in winter, the ponds serve as natural ice rinks for skating. This change between fishing events and winter use makes the ponds an independent part of the village landscape, without implying any additional offerings or access conditions.
Bell, dialect and collection
The local culture can also be seen in several specific details. One bell is considered one of the oldest bells in Gemer. It bears the year 1677 and the name of the bell founder, Michael Kupec. The local dialect is called “Ľahockuo”. Together, these two details – the historic bell and the distinctive linguistic designation – anchor Muránska Lehota in its regional heritage.
An antique collection provides an additional cultural point of access. It is open to everyone and can be viewed by anyone who visits the municipal office. The collection is therefore explicitly tied to a visit to the municipal office; no further information on opening hours or a separate exhibition operation is available here.
Music and community life
The folklore group FS Ľahota performs at municipal celebrations as well as at regional events and competitions. Its repertoire includes more than 60 folk songs. The cultural character of the village is therefore shaped not only by a single historic artefact but also by a living musical tradition with regional performances.
Community life also includes an event that has become an annual tradition. In particular, the focus is on a football tournament for the mayor's cup held at the sports field. Together with the performances by FS Ľahota, this event shows that, alongside its hiking trail, connection to the national park and historic traces, Muránska Lehota also has recurring community occasions.
