Muránska Huta

Muránska Huta combines nature experiences, a distinctive cave and waterfall landscape, and a clearly tangible local history. The cadastral area belongs to Muránska planina National Park, while a circular hike from here leads to Muránsky hrad Castle.

National Park, Caves and Waterfalls

Muránska planina National Park has existed since 23 September 1997. In Muránska Huta, this natural environment is represented by several clearly named destinations. Hutniansky vodopád waterfall is located on the state road from Červená Skala to Muráň, immediately behind the Muránska Huta bus stop. It can also be reached by bus from Muráň or Červená Skala. This connection also makes the waterfall interesting for visitors who do not plan to travel exclusively by car.

Bobačka Cave is designated as a national natural monument. It has more than five kilometres of underground spaces with rich sinter formations. The underground structure can also be seen in its watercourse: water from the cave flows for about 500 metres through the forest and forms a waterfall approximately three metres high at the road. At Bobačka, therefore, the focus is not only on the cave itself, but also on the connection between underground water and the visible landscape.

Circular Hike to Muránsky hrad Castle

A circular hike begins and ends in Muránska Huta. The route to Muránsky hrad Castle is 12 km long, climbs 565 m in elevation and takes about four hours. Its starting point is at Bobačka waterfall, also called Hutnícky vodopád, above the village. The hike thus combines a natural point at the beginning of the route with the historic destination of the castle.

From Muránska Huta, hiking and cycling trips into a national park are also possible. You can therefore regard the village as a starting point for different forms of outdoor activity, without reducing the landscape to a single activity. Those who prefer travelling on horseback will find another local offering at the Pod Planinou Riding Club: the club offers horse riding in the natural surroundings of a national park and the Stolické vrchy. Non-riders can also go on rides in nature there.

Traces of Local History

Muránska Huta was founded in 1652 together with a glassworks. The development of the village is therefore closely connected with a historic production site. In the 1860s, a hammer mill called “klinčiareň” was also operating here, producing nails for shingles. These two references complement the nature experiences with an industrial history that remains concrete even in the name of the hammer mill.
