Donovaly between mountain scenery and active days

Donovaly lies in an expansive mountain saddle at an altitude of around 960 metres above sea level. The area extends into the Low Tatras National Park, combining a distinctive landscape with a variety of options for your stay. Cyclists will also find several levels of difficulty. Riders Park Donovaly includes flow trails for beginners as well as advanced trails with jumps, berms and technical sections. The four-seat Buly Expres cable car takes bicycles directly to the trail starts in Riders Park. In addition, the cycling routes in Donovaly range from family loops to full-day mountain tours.

Experiences away from the slopes and cycling routes

A 14-metre-high climbing wall is located next to the car park for the cable car to Nová hoľa. Another striking attraction is the summer toboggan run in Donovaly. It is just under 900 metres long and has seven jumps. Both activities provide a different focus from the educational trail or cycling routes, expanding the selection with short, clearly defined activities.

Habakuky adds a culturally themed experience venue. The complex consists of houses in the style of folk-inspired fantasy architecture and invites visitors to immerse themselves in the Slovak folk tales of Pavol Dobšinský. Church, chapels and local history

Donovaly’s cultural heritage includes the Kostol sv. Antonína Paduánskeho church, which dates from 1825. Inside is a Classicist altar with a painting of Saint Anthony. The painting was created by the Banská Bystrica painter A. Stollman. This historic painting is complemented by three chapels in the settlements of Bully, Mistríky and Polianka.

The origins of the village are also shaped by the region: Donovaly developed from seven charcoal-burners’ settlements belonging to the Banská Chamber. This history gives today’s mountain resort an additional temporal dimension that remains visible alongside modern cable cars, trails and leisure activities.
