Brusno combines the history of a spa town with a varied landscape for active travellers and those interested in culture. The first season at the Kúpele Brusno spa began in spring 1838, after the first spa house had already been completed in 1837. Today, the town can best be explored through its spa park, historic religious buildings, local traditions and trails into the surrounding mountain landscapes.

Spa Park and Spa Town History

The spa park in Brusno is designated as a cultural monument. Its character is shaped by centuries-old linden trees, yews, spruces, poplars and chestnuts. Small ponds and a fountain add to the scenery. Those who value a place with a visible spa-town history when choosing accommodation will find a special starting point here for planning their trip, without limiting their stay to a single attraction.

From the spa facilities, a well-maintained promenade leads to the Skala viewpoint. This path can be planned as an activity in its own right and connects the spa town with a scenic destination. The neo-Gothic Chapel of Saint Anne and the town's originally Gothic church are also part of the cultural route through Brusno. The chapel was built in 1910 on the site of an older chapel dating from 1853. The church was built in the 15th century and enlarged and given new vaults in the Baroque style in 1744 and 1766.

Hiking, Cycling and Mountain Landscapes

There are numerous hiking trails in the municipality's surroundings, leading to the attractive ridges of the Low Tatras and the Poľana massif. Brusno is also a starting point for summer hiking, cycling and winter hiking, particularly to the tourist and recreational areas of the Vepor Mountains. This allows you to distinguish between different landscapes and seasons when planning your trip, rather than viewing the town solely as a spa destination.

Brusno also offers a specific starting point for a cycling trip: the Brusno–Strelníky–Šalková cycle route begins in the market square of the spa municipality. Brusno railway station is located in the town centre. These two features of the town are relevant for orientation when choosing where to stay, without presupposing a specific accommodation or a specific travel connection.

Čipkárskô: Cuisine and Local Traditions

The Čipkárskô tradition adds a distinctive cultural note. It preserves a dish that Brusno's ancestors cooked in a “Mašina” while travelling to markets to trade lace. At the annual local cultural festival Čipkárskô, folk cuisine, crafts and markets come together. Teams of four take part in the competition; the prerequisite is that they prepare the Čipkárskô dish in Mašinas. Those who want to include regional food culture and craft traditions in their trip to Slovakia can therefore also choose Brusno for this reason.
