Bacúrov: Volcanic Landscape, Panoramic Views and Hiking Trails

Bacúrov combines a distinctive volcanic landscape with a hiking stage to Zvolen and preserved traces of Slovak folk architecture. The village is situated at an elevated position and offers views over several basins and mountain ranges. Volcanic Terrain and Panoramic Views

The terrain around Bacúrov includes an extensive basalt flow, andesites and volcanic pyroclastics. These rocks give the surrounding area a distinctive geological character that differs from an ordinary field or mountain landscape. Fields, meadows and the surrounding mountains shape the scenery around the village. The local wildlife includes deer and roe deer, among other species.

The elevated location also makes various landscape areas visible: to the north, the view extends across the Zvolen Basin and the Kremnica Mountains, while to the south it reaches the Pliešovce Basin. West of Bacúrov, trees more than a hundred years old grow in the Štiavnické vrchy Protected Landscape Area. This gives you a changing setting to orient yourself in: open cultural landscapes, wooded mountains and geologically distinctive terrain.

Hiking from Bacúrov to Zvolen

The 7th stage of the Barborská cesta runs from Bacúrov to Zvolen. The described hiking route leads via Ostrá Lúka along the Hron River to Pustý hrad and then onward to the centre of Zvolen. Bacúrov can therefore be regarded as the starting point of a route that combines rural landscapes, a stretch along a river, a distinctive historic site and Zvolen’s urban environment.

Bell Tower, Church and Folk Architecture

One of the defining buildings is a wooden bell tower. It was built at the end of the 19th century and declared a cultural monument on 29 April 1998. Bacúrov also preserves original stone houses in the folk architectural style. Together with the bell tower, they give the village a built character that differs from a modern suburban settlement or purely tourist infrastructure.

The Church of St Simon and Jude is listed in the Central Register of the Slovak Monument Fund under number 1081/0. It is in good condition, continues to be used for its religious purpose and stands on a hill in the northern part of the municipality of Bacúrov. Historically, in addition to farming, the inhabitants also worked in forestry. This combination of a religious building, rural architecture and working history complements the village’s natural and hiking attractions.

The Pleso in Bacúrov

The Pleso in Bacúrov is a water reservoir that serves as a source of water in the event of a fire and has been stocked with fish. It is therefore part of the village’s tangible structure and complements the larger landscape areas with a clearly identified body of water.
