Lošonec – Nature, Trails and St. Anne
Lošonec combines marked trails through the landscape of the Little Carpathians with remarkable natural areas and a national cultural monument. When choosing accommodation in this Slovakian locality, this provides a range of experiences for orientation: hiking trails lead to protected areas, cycling routes run through the foothills, and St. Anne’s Church adds a historic point of interest to the landscape.
Nature between limestone, dolomite and volcanic rock
The Klokoč Nature Reserve lies within the cadastral territory of Lošonec. It covers 21.59 hectares and was designated in 1996. Its landscape is characterised by limestone and dolomite ridges. The massif consists of an exposed body of basic volcanic rocks, known as melaphyres, and forms an unusual, meadow-like backbone complex on eruptive rock. The protected area is home to grass and herb, shrub and animal communities; among other species, red deer, mouflon and roe deer occur there.
The Čierna skala Nature Reserve, also designated in 1996, covers 29.71 hectares. It protects karst formations in limestone and preserved xerothermic communities. Natural forest and open-land communities there are interspersed with rock walls and scree slopes. The two protected areas therefore differ considerably: Klokoč stands out for its unusual geology and open, meadow-like structures, while Čierna skala is characterised by karst, rock and heat-loving communities.
Hiking and cycling around Lošonec
The Jahodník recreation area is the starting point for marked hiking trails to Čierna skala and Záruby. From there, an access path also leads to Driny Cave. A yellow-marked hiking trail runs from Jahodník to the Čierna skala Nature Reserve. The 662-metre-high Čierna skala summit offers views of the extensive forests of the Little Carpathians and the Danube Hilly Landscape.
Several marked hiking trails lead through Lošonec and connect the Jahodník and Majdan recreation areas with Plavecké Podhradie. The surrounding area also offers various cycling routes: the Malokarpatská cykloturistická magistrála runs through the foothills near Lošonec. A cycling loop leads via Majdan and the Parina ponds along forest paths to Doľany. When comparing a stay in Lošonec, this allows hiking routes, access to a cave and cycling routes to be considered as different focal points.
St. Anne as a cultural highlight
The Roman Catholic Church of St. Anne, together with its fortifications, is listed as a national cultural monument. The present-day presbytery was created during the Baroque remodelling of 1714, and the two side chapels were added in 1753. The church also retains a wooden pulpit. It displays features of late ornamentation and elements of the High Baroque from the period of the interior decoration completed by 1753. The church building and the natural areas thus provide two clearly distinct points of interest when choosing a location: historic architecture in the locality and nature-oriented destinations in the nearby area described above.
Public transport connection
SAD Trnava provides a connection from Lošonec to the surrounding municipalities and the district capital through its network of routes. There are three pairs of bus stops in the locality. Accordingly, planning a stay involves considering not only the hiking and cycling routes but also the existing public transport network for practical orientation.
