Horné Dubové: Church, Bells and Cultural History

The Church of St. Martin

The Church of St. Martin is considered the most important monument in Horné Dubové. Its present form was created in 1720 through the reconstruction of the ruins of an earlier Gothic church. The building therefore combines two clearly defined historical phases: the Gothic predecessor church and the Baroque reconstruction. The church’s furnishings also preserve specific dates. The large bell was commissioned by the municipality in 1695, while the small bell was acquired in 1795. Emil Krapka was born in Horné Dubové on 17 July 1925. He was a Jesuit, theologian, underground teacher, organist and spiritual father. Three bus stops are named as local orientation points: bytovka PD, dolný koniec and ZŠ. Another precise location is the Jewish cemetery. It lies 750 metres southwest of the southern edge of Horné Dubové, on a field path.
