Nitrianske Sučany

Nitrianske Sučany combines an illustrative local history with an educational trail through the nature of Rokoš and a publicly accessible cave on the southern slope of Malý Rokoš. The focal point of the local history is the Baroque Church of Saints Philip and James, built in 1737. Its baptismal font is made of marble quarried in the municipality. The church is also listed under ÚZPF number 852/1-5. Thus, the same building combines visible design with a direct connection to the municipality’s natural resources.

Another sacred site is the Chapel of the Seven Sorrows of Mary. It was built at the end of the 18th or beginning of the 19th century. In Nitrianske Sučany, František Madva is commemorated by both a memorial plaque on the house where he lived and his grave with gravestone, listed under ÚZPF number 11382. These two memorial sites preserve different connections to his person and complement the historical evidence of the locality.

Local culture is also reflected in traditional customs. The Boršina folklore group draws on the old traditions of Nitrianske Sučany as well as collections of folk songs, proverbs and sayings. The Dobrá partia group organises a masked carnival procession, takes part in the traditional bass burial ceremony and helps erect the maypole. Historically, the trade in saffron and hemp, as well as local wine production, was also widespread in Nitrianske Sučany.

Educational Trail Through the Nature of Rokoš

For a combination of exercise and regional knowledge, the Fraňo Madva educational trail is a suitable choice. Its starting point is at the bus stop and car park in Nitrianske Sučany. From there, the route leads via Mankova dolina, Pinkovie viechy and Horné pažite to Nitrianske Rudno. The full route is indicated as taking approximately 4¼ hours.

The educational trail passes through the nature of Rokoš and provides information about its significant flora and fauna. From the starting point in the village to Nitrianske Rudno, the route combines landscape and knowledge of nature. Brložná diera at Malý Rokoš

The Brložná diera Cave is designated as a natural monument in the cadastral territory of Nitrianske Sučany. It lies on the southern slope of Malý Rokoš in the Strážovské vrchy mountains and is publicly accessible. The period from 1 May to 31 October is designated for visitor access.
