Veľký Slavkov between the High Tatras and culture

Veľký Slavkov combines its connection to the High Tatras with a remarkable density of history and small excursion destinations. Routes to the High Tatras

The proximity to Poprad–Tatry International Airport contributes to Veľký Slavkov’s good accessibility. From here, the High Tatras can be reached by passenger transport. The specific connections mentioned are the Tatranská elektrická železnica, private transport and bus services. Thus, in addition to travelling by car, travelling by public transport is also highlighted as a described option for getting around the town.

The town’s name also extends into the mountain landscape: Slavkovský štít is named after Veľký Slavkov and reaches 2,452 m. A written record of a three-day ascent of Slavkovský štít in June 1664 has been preserved. This historical reference belongs to the history of the mountain and should not be confused with a current promise regarding tours or operations.

Burich, cycle path and rest area

The Burich archaeological site is a destination in its own right for an excursion. An earthwork fortification from the La Tène period lies there on an inconspicuous hill. A marked cycle path leads from Veľký Slavkov to Burich; the route leads to a small hill with views of the Poprad Basin. Burich is also a popular destination for walks among residents and visitors to Veľký Slavkov. This allows the historic site to be combined with a brief experience of the landscape without losing sight of its archaeological significance.

There is a rest area for a break about 2.5 km beyond Veľký Slavkov in the direction leading away from the cemetery. It has a wooden shelter with seating and a fire pit. The approximate distance of 2.5 km is intended as local guidance; it is not an exact boundary or route measurement.

Two churches with different character

The Evangelical church in Veľký Slavkov was built in 1786–1788 as a towerless Toleration church. It is a hall church with a semicircular ending. The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Andrew the Apostle provides a distinctly older accent. It dates from the 13th century and was built around the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries as a single-nave Early Gothic structure. Its original medieval form has largely been preserved. An example of Gothic stonemasonry can be seen especially at the southern portal. This creates a clear contrast between a building from the period of the Toleration churches and a medieval church.

Mini golf and Slovak cuisine

Adventure Golf Veľký Slavkov has an 18-hole mini-golf course. The mini golf is presented as entertainment for the whole family and for groups, complementing the cultural and historical attractions with a playful activity. The traditional Slovak restaurant Salaš Slavkov is also part of the site. Both offerings are located in a described shared area; this does not imply any further properties, opening hours or current availability.
