Lucivna between castle history, snow park and forest park

Lucivna brings together several distinct aspects of Slovakia: historic churches and a castle, winter sports at the snow park, the spa tradition of Tatranské Kúpele Lučivná, as well as a forest park and a cycle path. This means that the town can be explored through more than just a single attraction. Churches and castle history

The Catholic church in Lučivná was built in the Classical style and is dedicated to Saint Martin, the bishop. The Protestant church adds its own cultural accent: it contains the painting “The Good Shepherd” by Peter Michal Bohúň. The two places of worship therefore represent different facets of the town’s history.

Lučivná Castle also reaches far back into the past. Its foundation stone was laid around 1450. In 1584, the Tököli family had the castle rebuilt in the Renaissance style. The castle also includes the Sakmáry-Varadi family cemetery, which has been preserved to this day. Anyone interested in historic buildings and their different periods will find several specific traces in one place.

Two clear reference points for getting there

Two distance figures are documented for orientation at the castle. It is 1.5 km from the Mengusovce motorway exit on the D1. From Lučivná railway station, the castle can be reached on foot in about 10 minutes. When planning your journey, you can therefore distinguish between a reference point on the motorway and the railway station without having to derive distances or routes from other information.

Snow park with a range of winter sports activities

Lučivná Snow Park caters to several forms of winter sports. Its facilities include four ski lifts, 1.5 km of ski slopes and 3 km of cross-country ski trails. The snow park also has a snow tubing track. This layout makes the difference between alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and another leisure activity clearly visible. The experience also includes panoramic views of the High Tatras.

Spa tradition and forest park

The treatment tradition of Tatranské Kúpele Lučivná dates back to 1872. The grounds cover more than 47 ha of a forest park. Tatranské Kúpele Lučivná also make a significant contribution to the treatment of non-tuberculous respiratory diseases in children and adults. The combination of a long treatment tradition, a forest park and a medical focus distinguishes this part from a purely recreational or winter sports destination.

The cycle path between Lopušná dolina and Lučivná offers another perspective. It was opened to the general public on 6 June 2021.
