Lendak is suitable for travellers who want to combine their trip to Slovakia with cultural history, regional traditions and experiences in nature. In the town, you will encounter St. Nicholas Church, a museum of folk architecture and references to Goral culture. Other topics include nature reserves, an educational trail and cycling. Depending on your interests, you can plan a cultural stay or combine Lendak with selected outdoor experiences.

Church, Museum and Historic Buildings

St. Nicholas Church in Lendak dates from the early 14th century. Inside, there is a Gothic Madonna, also known as the “Lendak Madonna”, which is dated to around 1420. Also located there is a crowned, crucified Jesus on the cross from the first half of the 13th century, dating to around 1235. In addition to the church’s historical origins, these two works of art give it an additional cultural and historical dimension.

The Múzeum ľudovej kultúry is dedicated to traditional folk architecture and preserves the memory, history and traditions of Lendak. Its authentic exhibitions illustrate traditional housing, material culture, folk costumes and the way of life of the town’s inhabitants in past centuries. The fixed opening hours are particularly helpful for planning your day: The museum is open to the public daily, all year round, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The former monastery is also part of the town’s history. After it was sold, it was converted into a manor house. Baron Andrej Horváth-Palocs extensively remodelled the building in the Empire style from 1812 to 1814.

Nature Reserves and Outdoor Trails

The Belianske lúky Nature Reserve lies southeast of Lendak, while the Pálenica Nature Reserve is located to the west. The directional information helps you locate the landscape around the town on the map. Another specific connection to Belianske lúky is the educational trail there: It lies on the cycling route between Tatranská Kotlina and Spišská Belá. At its beginning there is a wooden shelter with the signpost “Šarpanec – odbočka Lendak”.

The forest road near Altánok na Farskom is used for a cycling tour. The rest area has a lockable bicycle rack. There are also fire pits for roasting at the shelters that have been built. When planning an active day, this allows you to take specific break points into account without presupposing a particular route length or level of difficulty.

Near Lendak, the Diviačia obora wild boar enclosure offers the opportunity to observe wild boars in a safe, fenced-off area. The Belianske lúky educational trail begins directly next to it, on the cycling route between Tatranská Kotlina and Spišská Belá. Those who want to combine nature observation with a route will therefore find a clearly described starting point here.

Goral Traditions and Events

The town’s cultural character also includes the Lendak preschool folklore group. There, children are taught Goral songs, dances, greetings and proverbs; the children perform at various events. The traditional Juliáles festival has been held in Lendak since 2007. As part of the Juliáles 2026 project, a folklore festival in Lendak, a musical performance was planned. The Ľundacko važeska 2026 event was a goulash cooking competition that people could register for. These details refer to the 2026 event year and should not be understood as a general annual calendar.

Which Focus Areas Suit Your Trip?

If you are interested in sacred art and local history, St. Nicholas, the historic furnishings, the museum and the former monastery are the most important cultural points of interest. For cyclists, on the other hand, the forest road near Altánok na Farskom, the lockable bicycle rack and the described connection along the cycling route are relevant reference points. Nature enthusiasts can take the location of the two nature reserves, the Belianske lúky educational trail and the Diviačia obora into consideration. When looking for accommodation in Lendak, you can first decide whether culture, nature or cycling should be the focus of your stay.
