Mlynceky between the High Tatras, forest trail and cycling route
Mlynčeky connects the landscape of the Poprad Basin with the proximity of the High Tatras. The village lies at the eastern foot of the mountain range and stretches along the left bank of the Biela voda stream. This gives it a clearly defined landscape setting for a trip to Slovakia that combines trails, regional history and local amenities.
Landscape at the foot of the High Tatras
A particular classification follows from the Slovak government regulation of 2026: Mlynčeky belongs to the protection zone of Tatranský národný park National Park. This designation describes the protected landscape context without anticipating individual destinations or access conditions. For orientation on site, the Poprad Basin, the High Tatras and the Biela voda remain the defining geographical reference points.
The village’s history also extends beyond that of a mere through-route location. Mlynčeky was already known as a spa town in 1896. In addition, a former water mill was converted into the holiday resort “Tatra ház”. The mill’s former use is therefore just as much part of the village’s recorded history as its historical renown as a spa town. At the church dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, a specific date commemorates the more recent history of the village: it was consecrated on November 8, 1970.
Cycling and a short forest trail
For cycle tourists, the marked Podtatranská cyklomagistrála passes through Mlynčeky. The route runs from Podbanské to Kežmarok and is 47.5 km long. Mlynčeky is therefore situated on a clearly named connection through the landscape below the High Tatras. Anyone wishing to combine a longer cycling tour with a stay in the village can regard this route as a specific geographical reference point.
The Kelerov chodník offers a different form of exercise. The 2 km-long trail begins in Mlynčeky at the car park by the church. It follows a comfortable forest path and has several rest areas and benches. The difference is therefore clear when choosing between the cycling route and a walk: the Podtatranská cyklomagistrála connects several places over 47.5 km, while the Kelerov chodník begins in Mlynčeky and is described as a 2 km-long forest trail with places to rest.
Local amenities and events
Mlynčeky has two ski lifts. The local mlyn-gym is also used by visitors to Mlynčeky. For refreshments, Bistro Gól in Mlynčeky provides a place to stop.
The annual events calendar includes the football tournament “Memoriál Jožka Mačičáka”. The 23rd edition of the recurring Tatranská pätnástka running event was scheduled for June 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Its programme included a 15 km main race, a 4 km race for young people and children’s races. This edition had already taken place by the editorial date; as a feature of the village, however, it still shows that Mlynčeky is also associated with recurring sporting events.
