Busovce: Manor House, Churches and River Landscape

Busovce combines historic architecture with a clearly recognizable river landscape. The village lies at the confluence of the Poprad and its left-bank tributary, the Biela. Bušovce is situated on the main road from Spišská Belá (4 km) to Podolínec (6 km). The cadastral area also contains the regionally significant biocorridor of the Poprad River. This creates a destination whose character is shaped by waterways, sacred art, archaeological traces and an established settlement structure.

Historic Centre and Notable Buildings

The historic centre of Bušovce follows a historically developed, lens-shaped urban layout. The manor house stands at the eastern edge of this centre. The late Baroque, single-storey, three-winged building dates from the late 18th century. As a cultural monument, the manor house comprises a residential building and farm buildings. Its location on the edge of the historic centre connects the architectural distinction with the traditional settlement structure.

Another focal point is the Roman Catholic Church of St Lawrence the Deacon. It dates from the first half of the 14th century and contains an original Gothic stone baptismal font from the 14th century. The furnishings also include three Late Gothic wooden sculptures from the period after 1520, which are closely associated with the workshop of Master Paul of Levoča. The Evangelical church was built in 1818 in the eclectic style. Its historicist interior dates from the late 19th century and includes a folk-carved baptismal font from the 19th century. Its current use is expressly limited: services are currently held there once a year.

Archaeology and Regional Culture

South of Bušovce lies Dvorské pole, an archaeological site with evidence from the Palaeolithic, the Bronze Age, the Roman period, the Middle Ages and the modern period. Medzi lesmi is also an archaeological site; a medieval settlement and a modern-period settlement have been documented there. These two places represent a settlement history spanning several clearly identified periods.

The regional craft tradition is also part of the cultural character. Traditional Spiš bobbin lace was made in the area around Levoča, Lomnička and Bušovce and was already known in the 17th century. A historic connection to the river landscape is marked by the Polish Gate: it stood where the Biela flows into the Poprad, near present-day Bušovce.

Poprad, Biela and Designated Fishing Sections

The Poprad No. 5 grayling fishing section runs from the mouth of the Biela in Bušovce to the mouth of the Čierny potok in Spišská Belá–Strážky. Biela No. 1 is a fishable trout section that runs from its mouth in Bušovce to the boundary of TANAP.
