Thermal Waters as a Defining Feature of the Town

Tvrdošovce combines a clear wellness focus with a multifaceted local history. The thermal baths feature pools with pleasantly warm thermal water at 30 °C. They are located at Nová cesta 1. Church, Museum and Archaeological Traces

A second way to explore Tvrdošovce is through its local cultural history. The Church of Saint Stephen was rebuilt between 1707 and 1725. During this work, it acquired its current single-nave form with a side altar. Inside are frescoes by the master Jakobey dating from 1881. The church therefore preserves several clearly identifiable historical layers: the reconstruction in the early 18th century and the decoration of the interior in the 19th century.

The Municipal Museum on Dolná Street is dedicated to the history and traditions of Tvrdošovce. Archaeological finds additionally document settlement since the Early Bronze Age, as well as traces of human life from the older and younger Roman Imperial periods. To understand the town, it is therefore useful to look from the prehistoric finds and the Roman Imperial period through to the region's culture of remembrance. At the beginning of the 21st century, a municipal museum was established in Tvrdošovce, making this local focus visible.

Memorial Sites and Local Events

Several monuments add depth to the town's historical profile. The Rákóczi Monument in Tvrdošovce was completely redesigned in 2005 and has since been decorated with four carved reliefs. It stands by the new cemetery. From this location, Count M. Bercsényi sent three important letters to F. Rákóczi II on 30 October 1704. The so-called Rákóczi Hill was also the site of a bloody battle between the Kuruc forces and the imperial army.

Another form of memorial is the column that the municipality had erected in 2002 for three victims of the 1848/49 Revolution and War of Independence who came from Tvrdošovce. History and remembrance therefore appear not only in the museum and church, but also at named locations throughout the municipality.

The Dni Svätého Štefana festival took place for the 27th time from 20 to 24 August 2026. As part of these celebrations, a cooking competition was held on 22 August 2026 in the park on Horna Street in Tvrdošovce. These dates are part of the documented local history of 2026 and should be regarded as past events.
