Tekovské Lužany: Churches, Folklore House and Jewish History
Accommodation in Tekovské Lužany
Tekovské Lužany brings together a range of cultural themes: Baroque churches and a statue, a traditional rural longhouse, Jewish remembrance and a museum. By the reservoir, a nature trail adds perspectives on fauna and waste. When planning your trip, it is helpful to distinguish between historical heritage, present-day use and specific visiting arrangements.
Churches, architectural history and monument
The church of the Reformed Christian Church was initially built without a tower in 1784; the tower was added in 1792. A battle took place mainly in the area around this church. Another sacred landmark is the Baroque statue of the Holy Trinity in the garden of the Roman Catholic church, erected in 1755. The Church of St Stephen the King is a Baroque church dating from 1742 to 1745. It is in good condition and is still used for religious purposes. Here, you can encounter different forms of sacred history: architectural history, a monument in the church garden and a church that continues to be used for religious purposes.
The Folklore House: layout and present-day use
The Folklore House is a traditional rural longhouse with a narrow courtyard and a preserved layout. Its rooms include a front room, kitchen, rear room with an oven, summer kitchen and stable. The narrow courtyard adds a distinct outdoor area to the interior spaces; the layout therefore comprises more than a single living space. At the same time, the house is not just an architectural testament today: its rooms serve as a community centre for traditional and contemporary cultural and social events. The preserved structure and current community use give the Folklore House two distinct aspects.
Jewish remembrance and the museum
The larger Jewish cemetery is home to a Holocaust memorial dedicated to the Jewish victims of the Second World War from Tekovské Lužany and Tekovské Lužianky. The Museum of the Jewish Religious Community informs visitors about the life, culture and customs of the local Jewish community up to 1944. The museum can be visited by prior telephone arrangement, so please arrange your visit by phone. The memorial and museum offer different ways to engage with history: commemorating the victims and learning about the life of the community.
Distinguishing the reservoir and nature trail
The Tekovské Lužany reservoir is privately owned and is currently used exclusively for fish farming. Therefore, do not plan to use it as a public swimming or boating area. The nature trail around the reservoir is separate from this. Its three information panels cover the reservoir, its fauna and waste. The nature trail thus has its own informational focus, while the lake itself should not be planned as a public recreational area.
