Rastislavice combines sacred architectural history, traditional village culture and protected landscape areas. This creates a townscape in which churches, folklore and historical traces are just as much part of the story as the Dolné Považie Bird Protection Area and a marked cycling route in the neighboring municipality of Poľný Kesov.

Churches, Museum and Living Traditions

The Roman Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception is a single-nave functionalist building dating from 1939 to 1941. Its origins are unusual: it was created by converting an older granary. Another religious landmark is the Protestant church, designed by the Prague architect Václav Ložek.

The municipal museum of Rastislavice was established in 2002 as a “Space of Traditions.” It presents the history of the municipality, folk customs and the culture of its inhabitants. The museum is currently temporarily closed while new premises for its operation are being sought. The local Rastislavická Konopa folklore group is also dedicated to the folk traditions of Rastislavice. The annual customs include Stavanie Mája, a tradition associated with spring.

Further evidence of the village’s history can be found in Nové Rastislavice. There is a renovated old swing well there, called “vahadlová studňa” in Slovak. Its original age is estimated at around 100 years. A monument to the soldiers of the Red Army also stands in front of the Rastislavice municipal office.

Bird Protection Area and Landscape in the Wider Area

The boundary of the protected Dolné Považie Bird Protection Area (SKCHUV005) runs through Rastislavice. At the western edge of the built-up area of Nové Rastislavice, this boundary follows the settlement’s edge. Observations of the Syrian woodpecker (Dendrocopos syriacus) were recorded in Nové Rastislavice within the protected area between 2011 and 2013. Old, open acacia avenues along field paths near Nové Rastislavice are considered a preferred habitat of this bird species.

The Šurianské slaniská Site of European Interest also forms part of the wider area of Rastislavice. Thus, different landscape contexts meet around the village: the protected bird protection area, the field paths with their acacia avenues and an area of European significance. The historical information on the nature observations explicitly refers to the years 2011 to 2013.

Mobility and Cycling

The transport situation for traveling to the village is clearly defined: Rastislavice currently has no railway infrastructure. Regional bus routes connect the municipality with the surrounding villages and towns. The Nové Rastislavice stop is one of seven bus stops in the municipality.

There is also a specifically documented point of reference for cycling. From Rastislavice, a blue-marked cycling route 11.7 kilometers long can be reached in the neighboring municipality of Poľný Kesov. The route complements the cultural and natural-history themes of the village with a designated opportunity for active exploration, without implying any additional distance or time information.

Historical Traces of Regional Food Culture

The Degešské majere represent another chapter in the village’s history. High-quality dairy products were historically produced there. Cheese and butter from Degešské majere were sold as far away as Budapest. This tradition points to the former importance of agricultural production and adds a regional food history to the picture of Rastislavice.
