Zadubnie: Routes to the Dubeň Lookout Tower
Accommodation in Zadubnie
Zadubnie combines access to routes on Dubeň with a religious site within the village itself. From the Dubeň Lookout Tower, the view extends across Žilina and the surrounding area; the House of God’s Mercy is located in the lower part of the cemetery. On foot, by bus or by bike, each offers a different way to experience Zadubnie. When choosing accommodation for your trip to Slovakia, you can consider whether the views and routes, or local religious history as well, should shape your stay.
A viewpoint with expansive views
The Dubeň Lookout Tower stands on the summit of Dubeň above the village of Teplička nad Váhom. It is 27.4 metres—just under 28 metres—tall and has ten levels. The steel structure is clad in wood. From the tower, the view extends across the entire city of Žilina and its surroundings. Signs at the lookout tower provide information about the natural features and historical sights of the surrounding area. Here, views and orientation come together: the cityscape unfolds from above, while the signs identify natural and historical features of the area. In 2018, the tower was described as accessible year-round. Check the current access conditions before visiting.
On foot to Dubeň
The green-marked educational trail to the lookout tower starts at the Prípojná bus stop in Zádubnie. The shortest route from Žilina-Zádubnie is about 1.4 kilometres long. The access path to the tower crosses a meadow and passes through the forest. The bus stop identifies a specific starting point, while the distance refers to the shortest route. These are different reference points for planning; trail conditions may vary by season. If conditions change, check the markings on site.
Bus and cycling route
DPMŽ bus route 27 runs between Hájik, Hurbanova, Budatín, Zádubnie and Zástranie, and in the opposite direction. Check the timetable for your specific journey, as routes may change. A cycling loop also passes through the village: on the return leg, the Žilina–Straník–Radoľa route runs from Zástranie via Zádubnie to Žilina. These offer different ways to get around: the bus lists a sequence of stops, the route to the lookout tower leads to a local destination, and the cycling route forms part of a loop. When choosing your accommodation, you can first consider whether the bus connection, the walk to the tower or cycling should feature in your day’s plans. Check route conditions before a bike ride, as they can change.
A religious site in the cemetery
The House of God’s Mercy, in Slovak Dom Božieho milosrdenstva, is located in the lower part of the Zádubnie cemetery. It was blessed on 9 October 2005. The date places the religious building within the village’s history; its religious significance differs from the nature and viewpoint theme on Dubeň. For travellers who would like to include local religious history alongside a landscape experience, the house is a specific cultural landmark.
