The village lies in the Turiec Basin, at the foot of the Little Fatra mountains and on the right bank of the Váh. The Little Fatra National Park, which is subject to the third level of protection, lies directly within the cadastral territory of Lipovec. The Hajasová Nature Reserve is also part of the protected area. It protects forest communities in lower-lying areas within the Hoskora catchment area.

Forests, Water and Trails

Most of the area consists of deciduous and mixed forests. This landscape provides suitable living conditions for numerous species of forest plants, fungi and animals. The small Široká pond is located nearby and offers opportunities for relaxation and easy walks in nature. In winter, the pond freezes over and provides a place for ice skating.

Panošiná rises above Lipovec, a distinctive mountain in the southern Little Fatra with an elevation of 1,021.8 metres. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Lipovec via a memorial to the summit of Panošiná. The memorial below the mountain was erected in 1948. Memorial and hiking gatherings are held annually on Panošiná. The ascent along the hiking trail to Kľačianska Magura is also among the documented options: thanks to the natural surroundings and the views, it offers a view of the entire Little Fatra.

Cycling, River Trips and Local Culture

The Turčianska cyklomagistrála cycle route passes through Lipovec. It is suitable for trekking bikes and mountain bikes, complementing the hiking trails with an independent way to experience the landscape actively. Another experience is a river trip from Lipovec to Strečno. A 14-kilometre route runs along the river for this purpose; the trip takes approximately two hours.

The village itself also offers opportunities for a varied stay. The Leisure and Sports Centre in Lipovec is open to children, young people, adults and seniors, as well as to local organisations and interest groups, and serves residents and visitors for sporting, recreational and relaxing activities.

The bell tower stands in the centre of Lipovec, on the southern edge of the municipal cemetery. It was built in 1959 to replace an earlier bell tower dating from 1838. It contains a late Baroque bell from 1780. The annual ascent also commemorates the events of the battles near Strečno during the Slovak National Uprising.
