Oravské Veselé – Pilsko, Culture and Cycling Route

Oravské Veselé combines a distinctive mountain range with long-established cultural traditions and routes for hiking and cycling. Pilsko is the second-highest mountain in the Western Beskids. Its slopes are protected as a nature reserve. From the summit, there are views of Veľký Choč and Malá Fatra.

A green-marked hiking trail leads from Oravské Veselé to Pilsko. This route is the shortest ascent in terms of time and takes approximately 2.5 hours.

There is also a tourist border crossing at Pilsko for pedestrians, cyclists and skiers. This feature is particularly interesting for travel planning if you would like to include cross-border routes and different means of transport in your stay.

The cultural side of the village is particularly evident in the Pilsko children's folklore ensemble, which was founded in 1972. Its task is to revive, seek out and record the songs, customs, games and dances of older residents of the municipality. Through songs, games and rhymes, the ensemble also preserves the Goral dialect. This makes it clear to visitors that local culture here is conveyed not only through buildings but also through traditional forms of expression.

Amateur theater is another long-standing tradition: amateur theater has been performed in Oravské Veselé since 1922. Churches and Historical Evidence

The history of the village can also be traced through its churches. The first wooden church in Oravské Veselé was completed in 1656 and dedicated to Saint Elizabeth. The new masonry church was completed in 1815; its construction took ten years. Three altars from the wooden church were transferred to this church. In addition to the church, the Baroque sculpture of Saint Mary Magdalene is also listed under ÚZPF number 2660.
