Liptovský Ján between Springs, History and Valley Landscapes

Liptovský Ján combines thermal traditions, historic architecture and unique nature experiences. The Jánska dolina valley begins in the spa town of Liptovský Ján. The Teplica spring is another special feature of the town: it is the only spring in Liptovský Ján used both for drinking and bathing. Its mineral water has a temperature of 20°C and has proven healing properties.

Educational Trails and Mineral Springs

Those who want to discover the town through its landscape and regional history will find a connection between three places on the educational trail to the Medokýš mineral spring: Liptovská Porúbka, Liptovský Ján and Liptovský Hrádok. Six information panels provide details about biodiversity, the history of the surrounding municipalities and traditional activities. The trail therefore presents not just a single natural attraction, but places the mineral spring in a broader regional context.

Another starting point is located at the Brána do Jánskej doliny educational trail. It begins beside the car park of the Liptovský dvor resort in Jánska dolina near Liptovský Ján. Bus route 505415 is also relevant for travel planning: it connects Liptovský Mikuláš, Uhorská Ves and Liptovský Ján. The Teplica spring and the two educational trails represent different ways of experiencing the town – one through mineral water, the others through nature, municipal history and the beginning of the valley.

Manor Houses, Church and Museum

To this day, 16 manor houses from the original group remain in the historic centre of Liptovský Ján. A prominent historic monument is the Roman Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist. It was built in the Gothic style and received the “Cultural Monument of the Year” award in 2023.

An exhibition of the Svätojánske Museum is located in an original house directly beside the church on the edge of the town. The museum focuses on the history of Liptovský Ján, the founding of the municipality, its sights, notable figures and culture. It also features an exhibition about the Sentiványi family from Liptovský Ján, as well as an exhibition about the Čajak family and almost all of the Čajaks’ literary works. At the exhibition, you can also use original tools and equipment to crush ore, process it in sluices, work it in forges and then mint coins. History is conveyed here not only through texts and objects, but also through concrete work processes.

Cave, Models and Thermal Water

The Stanišovská Cave offers a distinctly different experience. It is 410 metres long, and a visit lasts approximately 45 to 60 minutes. The cave is explored without electric lighting, using a headlamp and accompanied by an experienced guide. This type of tour distinguishes it from conventional exhibitions and makes the lighting itself part of the visitor experience.

At the miniature theme park, you can see detailed models of Slovak cultural monuments at a scale of 1:25. Mini Slovensko Park also has a garden railway with trains running on several tracks. A swimming pool complex with four pools supplied with thermal water from the Rudolf spring offers a different focus. The documented experiences therefore range from regional history and architecture to caves and miniatures, as well as thermal water.
