Hruštín: Hiking, Culture and Winter Sports

Hruštín combines a long-established village history with extensive educational hiking trails, cycling routes across several mountains and a ski resort in the Oravská Magura. This gives you different priorities to consider when planning your trip: you can explore historic religious buildings, choose a clearly marked section of trail or discover the surrounding area through cycling and winter activities.

Educational hiking trails with different routes

The Lomná–Krušetnica–Hruštín educational hiking trail is 42 km long in total and connects Hruštín, Lomná and Krušetnica. The section in Hruštín covers 16.2 km.

There is also an educational hiking trail in the nearby area leading from Koliba u Kuba to the summit of Vasiľovská hoľa. This trail climbs just over 200 metres in elevation and provides information about the local fauna, flora and the area's biotopes. Its focus on natural history complements the longer Lomná–Krušetnica–Hruštín route with a trail where the landscape itself takes centre stage.

Cycling and winter excursions

The “Cyklotúra piatimi hoľami” reached its 15th edition. Its route led over Hruštínska hoľa, Bzinská hoľa, Vasiľovská hoľa, Kubínska hoľa and Lihoťanská hoľa. Anyone interested in cycling across several named elevations will find a clearly defined tour concept here rather than a general description of the landscape.

The third edition of the “Rodinná bicygľovačka” had a different, shorter focus: it offered parents with children and recreational cyclists a shorter, less demanding route. This describes the character of this event without applying it to the longer “Cyklotúra piatimi hoľami”.

On 14 February 2026, the 46th edition of the winter ski excursion “Prechod piatimi hoľami” took place in Hruštín. In the 2026 edition, the prepared route led over Hruštínska hoľa and Bzinská hoľa to the summit of Vasiľovská hoľa. This information refers to the documented 2026 edition and not to a future event date.

Ski resort in the Oravská Magura

The family-friendly SKI ZÁBAVA Hruštín ski resort is located 7 km from Hruštín on the northern side of the Oravská Magura at an altitude of 900 to 1,150 m. The ski resort has five easy to intermediate ski slopes with a total length of 4.8 km, as well as three tow lifts. A rental service and ski service, a children's ski school and a ski instructor are also listed.

Churches, chapels and a stone cross

The masonry Church of Saint John the Baptist in Hruštín was built in 1820. It is a spacious, single-nave Classicist building with a partially projecting tower crowned by an onion dome. The Chapel of Saint Anne was built as early as 1800 in the Classicist style and has been preserved in its original dimensions. On the road to Črchle, it has four columns as well as stone sculptures of Saint Anne and the Apostles Peter and Paul.

Another landmark along the way is the stone cross of Saint John the Baptist on the road to Babín, behind the bridge. It was erected in 1833 and bears a relief of Saint John the Baptist.
