Discover Padarovce: Church, Landscape and Routes
Accommodation in Padarovce
Padarovce combines the landscape of the southeastern Slovak Ore Mountains with a remarkably detailed Evangelical church and two routes through the village. If, for your trip to Slovakia, you are looking not for an interchangeable stopover but for a place with its own history and clear cultural points of interest, Padarovce offers several different ways to explore it: you can consider its regional setting, trace the church’s architectural history and assess routes with different characteristics.
Location in the southeastern Slovak Ore Mountains
Padarovce is located in the southeastern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains. This classification connects the village with a clearly named mountain region. Historically, intensive fruit growing and viticulture were practiced in Padarovce. Both are part of the village’s traditional character, without suggesting that they constitute current agricultural offerings.
Evangelical church with several construction phases
The Evangelical church in Padarovce was built from 1799 to 1803 in the style of the Toleration churches, without a tower. Its original volute façade therefore belongs to a construction phase in which the church was initially built without the later tower. The tower was later added to the original volute façade of the church front and adapted in 1923. The church tower was erected in the same year and is 31 metres high. The church thus combines an original towerless structure with a later extension at the front.
The interior also contains distinctive art-historical details. The Classicist altar is designed as a portal: four columns support a triangular pediment. The altar also features a painting of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, added later in the mid-19th century. A Classicist stone baptismal font from the beginning of the 19th century complements the furnishings; its chalice-shaped bowl bears a petal motif. Three bells hang in the church tower.
A villagescape between wine motifs and route choices
The municipal coat of arms incorporates several specific motifs: on a red field, it shows a golden barrel beneath a golden bunch of grapes. On the right is a silver grafting knife, and on the left a silver scion. The barrel is positioned beneath the bunch of grapes; the grafting knife and scion complete the design on the two sides. The coat of arms and the village’s history thus link fruit growing and viticulture, without equating the depiction with a current offering.
Two routes include Padarovce in their itineraries. The Teplý Vrch–Padarovce–Nižná Pokoradz route runs through the village and ends in Nižná Pokoradz. Another route leads from Teplý Vrch via Padarovce, Dražice and Veľký Blh to Danielia zvernica. After passing through Padarovce, it continues through further villages to this destination. The roads have little traffic; this route is considered undemanding.
