Nevoľné amid mountain landscapes, hiking trails and local history

Nevoľné is a settlement described as a mountain community in the Kremnické vrchy at an elevation of 705 m. When choosing accommodation, the combination of marked trails, a cycling route and distinctive landscape features is particularly interesting: from Nevoľné, hiking trails lead to the Jastrabská skala natural monument and the Kremnický štós nature reserve. At the same time, the village lies along the 23 km-long Magistrála Kremnica–Trnavá Hora. This makes it possible to plan your stay around specific routes and destinations without reducing Nevoľné to a single attraction.

Landscape with pronounced differences in elevation

The terrain around Nevoľné ranges from the lowest point at 504 m in the valley of the Bieleho potoka to 950 m on the slopes of Kremnický štít. Over a distance of about one kilometre, the difference in elevation is 410 m. The terrain has pronounced changes in relief: the valley area, wooded slopes and higher elevations lie within a comparatively small area.

Ďurova skala, consisting of andesite cliffs, is located near the municipality and offers views of Dolná Ves and part of Kremnica. A hiking route to Ďurova skala is also marked from Nevoľné. Another landscape area is Peňažná, a landscape formed by volcanic activity, with rock blocks and stone debris loosened by erosion and covered by dense forest. A Stations of the Cross was later built beside the cross on Peňažná. The path ends at a naturally formed rock temple where Masses are celebrated for pilgrims.

Hiking, cycling and a special route

Hikers therefore have several different destinations to choose from: the Jastrabská skala natural monument, the Kremnický štós nature reserve, Ďurova skala and the landscape of Peňažná. The hike from Nevoľné to the Jastrabá railway stop takes approximately 2 to 3 hours. This time indication should be understood as an approximate duration and complements the longer connections in the surrounding area with an individual hiking option.

The blue-marked POHRONSKO – KREMNICKÝ OKRUH cycling route also passes through Nevoľné. The Pohronsko–Kremnický Okruh is suitable for road bikes, trekking bikes and mountain bikes. In addition to the hiking trails, this provides a designated way to explore the area using different types of bicycles. Buses connect Nevoľné with Kremnica; this connection is relevant for regional orientation if you want to link the village with Kremnica.

Waterworks, church and historical references

The Nevoľnícky waterworks, dating from 1940, lies along the Magistrála Kremnica–Trnavá Hora. Construction began on 21 May 1940; water was already flowing into the tank on the third day. The waterworks thus combines a specific technical history with a designated 23 km-long route.

The church of Nevoľné is also one of the settlement’s distinctive details. It was consecrated on 13 September 1970. Inside is an organ dating from 1973 with 1,724 pipes. The older history of the settlement is connected with the 1487 land register: Nevoľné is named as one of the villages associated with the first surviving written mention.

Annual march

The traditional Prechod krajom SNP march offers a special combination of the village, a bus journey and a hike. It takes place every year on the last Saturday in August. During the march, buses take hikers from Nevoľné to Skalka; from there, a 15 km route and a 20 km route begin. For travel planning, not only the route length but also the fixed event date is therefore decisive.
