Osrblie: Biathlon, Sacred Monument and Tri Vody

Osrblie combines a year-round biathlon centre with sacred and industrial heritage sites. This makes the village interesting for you if you do not want to consider sports facilities, local history and paths in the surrounding area separately. These include the National Biathlon Centre Osrblie, the Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, the Tri Vody locality and paths to wells and springs.

Biathlon in Osrblie

The National Biathlon Centre Osrblie belongs to the municipality of Osrblie and offers year-round training conditions for active athletes, amateurs and the general sports-minded public. The centre includes two running tracks. One of them is a 4-kilometre loop that leads across meadows and through spruce forests. The site also hosts national Viessmann Cup competitions and international competitions held under the auspices of the International Biathlon Union. Both classic winter biathlon and summer biathlon are held here.

The current restriction is crucial for orientation: moving around and training on the NBC Osrblie grounds without prior registration are prohibited. The centre should therefore not be understood as a freely accessible training area. Its uses range from training for different target groups to national and international competitions, but they follow the stated rules for the site.

Church and traditional village character

Osrblie is home to the Roman Catholic Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, a sacred monument of the village. It was converted from an older sacred building in 1935. Inside is a wooden sculpture of the Madonna and Child dating from the second half of the 15th century. The church thus combines a more recent structural alteration with a significantly older work of art.

The local character also includes Osrblie's original folk architecture with its picturesque wooden houses. This heritage is just as relevant to understanding the village as the individual sacred monument: it makes the traditional style of construction visible as part of the village landscape, without reducing Osrblie to a single destination.

Tri Vody and paths in the surrounding area

The Tri Vody locality lies south of Osrblie. From Osrblie, it is about a 45-minute walk south along an asphalt road. There, the remains of a charcoal-fired blast furnace built in 1795 recall Osrblie's significant ironmaking history. The site therefore brings a specific piece of technical heritage into the surroundings of the present-day village.

Hiking trails in the area around Osrblie lead to wells and springs. On the summit of Štompová skala, members of the Osrblie Volunteer Fire Brigade erected a cross as a memorial and as a protective symbol against the destructive power of nature. These destinations complement the biathlon site with historical and landscape-related points of interest, without suggesting that they should be combined into a single circular trail.

Natural setting

Osrblie is included in the cadastral coverage of the Poľana Natura 2000 site.
