The Náučný chodník históriou a tradíciami obce Čierny Balog provides an easy-to-follow route. The educational trail starts at the municipal office and leads directly to the Lesnícky skanzen in the Vydrovská dolina. Along the way, it offers a gentle, nature-oriented alternative to the paved main road. This makes it possible to combine a visit to the open-air museum with a route that specifically highlights the history and traditions of the municipality.

The parish church in Čierny Balog is also part of the local history. It is dedicated to the Nanebovzatie Panny Márie and was built between 1797 and 1804. For further geographical context, the Dobročský prales National Nature Reserve is located within the municipality of Čierny Balog, six kilometres south of the settlement of Dobroč, at the end of the Brôtovo valley in the Pod Geraukou area.

Viewpoints over the village and surrounding landscape

Above the Komov and Pusté districts stands the wooden rozhľadňa Pustý vrch. The observation tower is eleven metres high and has two viewing platforms at heights of three and six metres. From there, you can see Čierny Balog and the surrounding nature. The Urbanov klobúk viewpoint offers a different spatial perspective, with views of the Nízke Tatry, the Veporské vrchy and Poľana.

Summer trails and designated routes

For the summer season, the Čiernohronská železnica has designated the Čierny Balog – Vydrovská dolina (Lesnícky skanzen) route. Another designated route leads from Čierny Balog via the football pitch to Dobroč. Along the route described, you can gain insights into the local fauna and flora; there is also a hunting high seat there.

During the summer season, Ski Čierny Balog offers hiking and mountain biking. There is also a mini-farm where visitors can pet and feed sheep and goats. In addition to the cultural and historical sites, this provides active and directly nature-oriented options.
