Čeláre combines a multifaceted cultural landscape with nature experiences along the Ipeľ. Historic manor houses, a distinctive church, wine-growing history and routes on foot or on the water give the town different facets. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose between a canoe trip, a hike over Hrozný vrch and cultural and historical sites in Čeláre and Kirť.

Canoeing on the Ipeľ

A canoe route on the Ipeľ leads from the harbor in Bušince to the football field in Čeláry. The route is 6 km long, takes about 2 hours and has a difficulty rating of 4. Allow for these approximate two hours when planning your day. While canoeing, you can enjoy views of floodplain forests and meadows; you can also observe water birds and fish. In addition to the historical sights, this gives you the option of spending time in a water-shaped landscape.

Hiking routes with different highlights

Those who want to explore Čeláre on foot can plan a route over Hrozný vrch. The summit reaches an elevation of 281 m, after which the route descends to Čeláry. Another hiking route is called “Popri Ipli”. It leads from Bušince via Hrozný vrch, Čeláre and Kirť, with the Keglevich family manor house, to Kováčovce. The routes mentioned thus combine exercise, landscape and historical points of interest, without requiring you to limit your trip to just one type of experience.

Manor houses and park in Kirť

The historic estates are one of the focal points of the area's history. The Luisézny manor house in Čeláry was built around 1770 by the noble Prónay family. In the Kirť district, the surviving part of the manor house is now designated as a protected cultural monument. The manor complex also includes the preserved accommodation wing of a Baroque château, which Count Keglevich used as a hunting lodge.

The complex in Kirť includes a large English park with numerous interesting trees from distant countries and a small zoological garden. The site therefore offers several cultural and natural perspectives: historic architecture, landscaped surroundings and a special collection of trees stand side by side. Čeláry is also home to a badly deteriorated ruin of the Prónay manor house. It adds a historical trace to the overall picture, with its present state of preservation being an explicit part of it.

Church, wine-growing and local character

The Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Čeláry is a Baroque-Classical building dating from 1797. Its main altar is in the Neo-Rococo style and features a central image of Saint Michael from the late 18th century. Those interested in sacred art and historic interiors will find another distinct highlight here alongside the manor houses.

The local economic history is also part of the character of the area. Historically, wine-growing was practiced alongside agriculture in Čeláry. There is also a wine cellar from the 19th century. Together with the hilly landscape in the northern and northeastern part, this creates a multifaceted impression of the area: the landscape is built on Lower Tertiary deposits and features steeper slopes as well as acacia groves.
