Bátorová

Bátorová combines distinctive evidence of local history with landscapes associated with recreation and regional excursions. If you would like to get to know a lesser-known place in Slovakia, churches, folklore, a historic bell tower and the surroundings of Karikáš come together here. The documented features range from buildings and musical traditions to a water reservoir, a natural pond and a walk to an old oak tree.

Churches and oldest building

The history of Bátorová includes two churches from different periods. The Protestant church was converted from a chapel built in 1903. The Roman Catholic church was created in 1966–1967 by converting a chapel and the family crypt of the Blaškovičovci family dating from 1870. Together, these details show how the village’s religious buildings changed over several generations.

The bell tower is considered the oldest building in Bátorová. It contains a Baroque bell from 1740. Thus, this building is notable not only for its role in the village landscape, but also for a specific historical detail that illustrates the local past to the present day.

Folklore with its own history

A characteristic cultural point of reference is the Agačinka folklore group. It was established at the end of November 1973 in connection with the local organization of the Slovak Women’s Union. Its history is therefore closely connected with local club and cultural life. On 17 August 2024, Agačinka from Bátorová performed at the Hontianska paráda folklore festival in Hrušov with the program “šúpanie kukurice”. In 2023, the group also released its first CD, entitled “Bátorovská agačinka zelená sa”.

A local community festival was also part of the more recent events: the third edition of “Bátorovská vareška” was announced in Bátorová for 11 July 2026 as Community Day. The date has now passed; what remains documented is the announced community event.

Karikáš and routes into the landscape

Several distinct points of reference are relevant to nature and recreational interests. The Karikáš pheasantry is located in Bátorová and is associated with opportunities for recreation and tourism. The Karikáš natural pond is also located in Bátorová and is associated with recreational opportunities. The two names should not be merged into a single location: the pheasantry and the natural pond are mentioned as separate local points of interest.

A considerable part of the Nenince water reservoir lies in the cadastral area of Bátorová. The reservoir is well stocked with freshwater fish and is used by anglers from the entire surrounding area. For a stay focused on the landscape and regional recreational activities, this point of reference adds a clear focus on the water to the village’s cultural themes.

On 1 May 2024, a walk to the oldest oak tree in the municipality also took place in Bátorová.

Orientation on site

For orientation purposes, a wooden information board was installed in 2023 by the bus stop in the car park in Bátorová, and another notice board was installed in 2024 on the grounds of the Bátorová municipal office. These two locations provide different local points of contact for information, without implying any specific opening hours or current content of the boards.
