Poprad International airport in Slovakia received its first charter flight. It became Kiev-Poprad flight, which delivered to the main airport of the High Tatras 180 tourists from Ukraine. Tourists plan to spend the New Year Eve and Christmas at the most popular resort of the country.
This season it will be easier to get to the ski resorts of Slovakia in the High Tatras. For tourists from Russia and Ukraine were opened additional checkpoints in order to simplify the procedure of passport control.
It is expected that in 2011 the number of tourists from Ukraine at the Slovakian ski resorts will increase. According to the estimates of the specialists of Ukrainian travel agencies the number will be about 10 000 people. Even today it can be asserted that the demand for skiing in Slovakia is growing. It is popular due to its relatively low prices and great selection of tracks. In addition, the Slovaks always try to improve the infrastructure. So, this year, several ski resorts in the country, including Jasna, Donovaly and Strbske Pleso, offer their tracks on a single ski pass.
Representatives of the Ukrainian travel agencies expect that the number of Ukrainian tourists, who choose Slovakia this season, will increase by 30-40%. It is expected that the number of Ukrainian tourists at the ski resorts of Slovakia this season will exceed 10 000 people.
For Slovakia tourists from Russia and Ukraine are among the most welcomed guests. It is due not only to the similar mentalities, but also generosity of the Russians and Ukrainians, who spend vacations at local resorts. On average during two weeks of winter vacations tourists from Ukraine and Russia leave at the resorts of Slovakia around 1000 euros.
Poprad is the air gateway not only to Slovak resorts. Many tourists from Eastern Europe from here get to the slopes of the most famous winter holiday region in Poland - Zakopane. This time, from 180 tourists of the Kiev-Poprad flight only 18 chose Zakopane. The others preferred to relax in Slovakia.
