Slovakia is the best country in the East Europe to spend winter holidays, vocation or just weekend. There are several mountain massives known for their ski resorts in the country – the Tatry, the Fatra, the Carpathians. In winter Slovakia is the most favourite place for the thousands of tourists because of its mild climate, clarity of the air and purity of water, great choice of comfortable hotels and well-equiped routs.
The most popular winter region is the High Tatry. It is the Tatry mountain ridge in the north-west of the country.The best resorts of the country are concentrated here: Strebske Pleso, Zdjar, Stary Smokovec, Tatranskac Lomnica. Every resort offers not only comfortable boarding-houses and hotels but also a great amount of qualitative winter entertainments: routs of different complicacy levels, elevators, ski jumps. The High Tatry has the best conditions for training in winter and at the same time it’s the oldest national park in Slovakia.
The Low Tatry is not so popular as the High Tatry but it is also a well-known and famous resort. Donovaly resort and Shtrebske Pleso resort have been disputing about the title of the mountain skiing capital of Slovakia for all their existence.
The Velke Fatra (or the Big Fatra) is also the national reserve. The resorts are situated in the environs of the famous slovakian cities Banska Bistritsa and Ruzhemboroka. It gives the opportunities to enjoy speed-lowering and unique city architecture. The old center of Banska Bistritsa is the architectural reserve.
There are also many less popular but more silent and placid resorts. There are Volovsky Vershiny (peaks) near Koshice and the Chregov massive in the East of the country. There are Starogorskiye and Cremnitskiye Vershiny in the center of Slovakia. Cisutskiye Beskidy are situated in the north of Slovakia.
