Accommodation in Šarkan
Šarkan between floodplains, vineyards and castle history
Šarkan is located in the southeastern part of the Pohronská pahorkatina uplands and combines a rural setting with noteworthy evidence of the area's history. This creates a destination where the landscape, cultural monuments and a designated cycling stage are closely connected with the character of the municipality. The built-up area is surrounded by extensive arable land, vineyards with wine cellars, grassland, as well as areas and linear elements of landscape greenery. The grape in the municipal coat of arms represents the agricultural traditions of Šarkan, particularly its winemaking traditions.
Floodplain landscape along the Paríž stream
The northern part of the cadastral area consists of the marshy floodplains of the Paríž stream. The stream flows through the cadastral area of Šarkan and empties into the Hron. This aquatic and floodplain landscape forms a clear contrast to the arable land, vineyards and grasslands around the built-up area. The Parížske močiare area is also located near Šarkan. The 590-hectare protected area falls under the jurisdiction of the CHKO Dunajské luhy Protected Landscape Area. Those interested in the natural side of the village will find a clearly defined landscape unit here alongside the rural and cultural-historical surroundings.
Church, castle and traces of local history
The Roman Catholic Church of the Virgin Mary dates from 1810. Ecclesiastically, it is a filial church of the Gbelce parish. The sacred furnishings and local history also include a late-Baroque Pietà with a cross from the second half of the 18th century, which is registered in Šarkan as an immovable cultural monument.
Another focal point is the castle. It was built in 1827 by the Koller family. Its remains include a unique 19th-century wall; the fence on the eastern side of the castle is decorated with round towers. However, this should not be taken as a statement about current visiting opportunities.
In the Divá district, there is also an architecturally interesting wooden bell tower at the entrance to the settlement. A trip to Šarkan therefore offers various cultural points of interest: sacred architecture, the history of the castle and an independent structure in the district.
Accommodation connection in the historic castle estate
The reconstructed and expanded castle estate in Šarkan was put into operation in 2014 under the name HOTEL CHÂTEAU ŠARKAN. HOTEL CHÂTEAU ŠARKAN contains a restaurant, a bar, a salon and a conference room. This documents a specific accommodation connection within the village setting and a historic context. For your choice, the actual availability of the accommodation remains a separate question; the local information itself primarily shows that the history of the castle and accommodation are closely situated alongside each other in Šarkan.
Cycling and agrotourism
Šarkan lies on the regional cycling route of stage 5. The route runs from Štúrovo via Kamenica nad Hronom, Kamenín, Bruty, Svodín, Šarkan, Ľubá, Belá and Nána back to Štúrovo. The cycling stage is 65.4 kilometres long and has 335 metres of elevation gain. It is not suitable for racing bikes. This specific restriction is more important when choosing a bicycle and assessing the route than a general description of it as a cycling tour.
Another form of a rural experience is offered by the family-run Ranč U divokého koňa. As part of its agrotourism activities, it offers horseback riding and carriage rides. This agricultural experience complements the cultural-historical and scenic aspects of Šarkan.
