Viničky combines the Tokaj wine region with river branches, protected natural areas and regional culture. Wine Cellars and Zemplín Cuisine

Viničky is one of the villages along the Tokaj Wine Route. There, visitors can enjoy local gastronomic specialties alongside wine tastings in cellars. One notable venue is the historic Zlatý Strapec cellar. The family winery is run by the third generation of winemakers and offers tastings in a medieval cellar with two tasting rooms. The tasting room offers Furmint, Lipovina, Yellow Muscat, sweet and dry Spontaneous, as well as Selection.

The culinary offerings also include the Zlatá Putňa restaurant. It serves Zemplín cuisine featuring traditional Slovak and Hungarian dishes as well as various seasonal specialties. The Day of the Open Tokaj Farm Cellars is also held in Viničky as a documented wine event. For the 11th edition, the stated hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; access to the farm cellars included tasting three wine samples at each one.

The Bodrog, Oxbow Lakes and Protected Landscapes

The waterscape can be explored in different ways. Boat trips on the Bodrog begin at the harbor behind Viničky and continue to neighboring Hungary. The trips include information about the river’s special features as well as the flora and fauna of protected areas. Tokaj wine tastings and catering are available on board. The Horseshoe oxbow on the Bodrog River is suitable for fishing and boat trips.

The protected areas also differ considerably from one another. Borsuk is a protected landscape area in the northern cadastral territory of Viničky with thermophilous vegetation. An obsidian site was discovered in its andesite area. The Tarbucka Nature Reserve was designated in 1986, now covers 148.98 hectares and is subject to the fifth level of protection. It is home to nesting birds and rare sand-loving vegetation, including the maiden pink and one of the few Slovak sites of the Hungarian pasque flower. Tajba is a protected oxbow of the Bodrog and a habitat for an endangered European pond turtle as well as waterfowl.

History, Music and Cycling

The historical side of Viničky is connected with the family of Count Július Andrássy. In addition to vineyards, it owned large wine cellars, wine houses and a chapel. The Chapel of St. Joseph on the Andrássy family estate was built in the late 18th century in the Baroque style and is now used for Roman Catholic Masses. The Filagoria is a preserved light fortification from the period of the First Czechoslovak Republic and is used as a viewpoint.

The female folk singing group Tokajský strapec was founded in 1972. It performs at various cultural events in the Medzibodrožie and Použie regions and seeks to preserve the old customs and traditions of its ancestors through its repertoire. For active transportation, a 1.75 km-long cycle path was renovated as part of the Cross-bike project. Viničky provided eight electric bicycles, a charging station and a rest area; the public Cross-bike bicycle system was made accessible to everyone.
