Mlynky combines winter sports, protected landscapes and short as well as longer routes to create a diverse travel destination in Slovakia.

Winter sports in different formats

When choosing your trip, the difference between alpine and Nordic winter sports is clear in Mlynky. The Mlynky–Biele Vody ski area has a prepared ski slope and also offers night skiing. Those who prefer longer distances on cross-country skis can take the 10 km route around Kráľova hora. Cross-country skiing and biathlon competitions take place on the cross-country trails every year; this does not imply any specific event date.

National park and nature reserve

Mlynky is also clearly structured in terms of its landscape. Along its western edge, the cadastral territory extends into Slovenský raj National Park. Most of the area belongs to the national park’s buffer zone. This distinction is important for orientation, because it means that not the entire municipal area is assigned to the same protected-area category. The Biele Vody district also borders the Zejmarská roklina National Nature Reserve to the northwest.

Routes for longer and shorter excursions

The Hnilecká cyklomagistrála runs through Mlynky and connects Dedinky with Margecany. At 69.0 km, it is a considerably longer connection and serves as a reference for an extensive cycling route. For hiking, marked trail 2825 is on a different scale: it leads from Dedinky via Mlynky, Prostredný Hámor and Havrania Dolina to Zadný Hýľ and is 8.2 km long in total.

In addition, there is a short route from Mlynky to Havrania Dolina. It is 1.0 km long, has an elevation difference of 20 m and takes approximately 30 minutes. The time stated is only an approximate indication. Together with the longer marked trail, this creates a broad range between a short excursion and a route passing through several villages, without suggesting that the two routes should be equated.

Church and mining history

Mlynky’s cultural heritage includes the Protestant church. It is a late Baroque building dating from the end of the 18th century. A nature trail in the vicinity of Mlynky complements this historical aspect with two stops focused on Mlynky’s mining history. Thus, alongside sports and nature, the itinerary also includes tangible evidence of the village’s history.

Getting there and further destinations

For orientation when travelling to the area, regional bus route 810433 is relevant. It runs from Spišská Nová Ves via Hnilec and Mlynky towards Dedinky, Stratená, Dobšinská Ľadová Jaskyňa and Dobšiná. The route shows Mlynky as part of a connection through several villages and landscapes, without implying a specific journey time or timetable.
