Rudinka

At Rudinka, Kysucká brána forms a gateway from the Horné Považie region to the Dolné Kysuce region. The place therefore represents both a geographical transition and a landscape whose distinctive features can be observed within a small area.

Kysucká brána and its geological features

Kysucká brána is a narrow passage. It was formed when the Kysuca River cut through a limestone cliff belt. As a protected natural monument, it features a unique geological profile of this cliff belt. Kysucká brána is regularly visited by numerous geological excursions, making it particularly interesting for travellers who want to experience the landscape not only as a backdrop but also in terms of its geological formation.

Two hills are part of this distinctive landscape area. Brodnianka is the higher of the two hills forming Rudinka’s Kysucká brána and is designated as a nature reserve. The Rochovica nature reserve showcases a different natural aspect: thermophilous woodland communities grow there, with many rare thermophilous species. Their distribution there is among the northernmost in Slovakia. The two reserves highlight different aspects within the same landscape area, and their protection designations should not be confused with one another.

An educational trail for a short walk

The Panské Vŕšky educational trail lies in the Dolné Kysuce area, within the cadastral territory of Rudinka. It is approximately 550 m long and has an elevation difference of 99 m. It is an easy walk suitable for families with children. This distinguishes it from longer routes through its manageable length and its clear combination of experiencing the landscape and gaining information. Parking for the educational trail is available at the recreation area at the entrance to Rudinka.

Cycle route and named routes through the surrounding area

There is also a specific connection for travelling by bicycle: Cycle route 2403 (C1) passes through Rudinka and runs there along road III/2095. Its entire route leads from Žilina via Kysucké Nové Mesto to Krásno nad Kysucou. A length of 2.4 km is specified for the cadastral territory of Rudinka. This figure refers to the section within Rudinka’s cadastral territory and supplements the intermunicipal route with a local perspective.

Kysucká brána is also connected with two named routes. The opening route leads from Rudina via Závršie and the summit of Rochovica to Rudinka. The closing route leads from Radoľa via Snežnica and the summit of Brodňanka to Rudinka. The route options therefore record different starting points and different summits along the way.
