Discover Horný Vadičov

Horný Vadičov combines an accessible ski resort with the distinctive natural setting of Ľadonhora and a challenging mountain bike route. It is also home to an early 19th-century church, a special carnival tradition and regular cultural events. If you are looking for a place in Slovakia where landscape, activities and local culture come together in close proximity, you will find several clearly distinct reasons to visit here.

Ľadonhora: highest point and nature reserve

The highest point in Horný Vadičov is Ľadonhora, at 999.20 m above sea level. At the same time, it is a state nature reserve. These two facts describe the character of the landscape more precisely than a general reference to a mountain region: Ľadonhora is closely associated with Horný Vadičov both because of its elevation and its protected status.

Snowsun Vadičov: access and facilities

At the Snowsun Vadičov ski resort, parking is available at the resort and directly below the lift. The resort can be reached by bus and by car; a bus stop is located 200 metres from the ski resort. This means that both private transport and bus travel are practical options when choosing how to get there. The ski resort also has two TATRAPOMA drag lifts. Each of these lifts has an inclined length of 650 metres. This figure refers to the length of the respective lift, not to the length of a piste or descent.

Challenging route for mountain bikers

The challenging “Terchová–Žilina přes kopce” mountain bike route passes through Horný Vadičov. It is approximately 54 kilometres long and includes more than 1,200 metres of elevation gain. The route is suitable for experienced mountain bikers as well as for e-bikes capable of handling long climbs and fast descents. This offer is therefore explicitly aimed at sport-oriented cyclists and e-bikes meeting the stated performance requirements. The route offers a different reason to visit than the ski resort: its focus is on a longer distance, substantial elevation gain and a demanding riding profile.

Church, wayside shrine and local events

The Church of “Kostol sv. Mikuláša biskupa” was consecrated on 2 July 1806. It is a Neoclassical single-nave church with a segmentally terminated presbytery. The building also includes an integrated tower, approximately 30 metres high, with a pyramidal roof. The church is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose. Horný Vadičov is also home to the “božie muky” wayside shrine, which contains a statue of the Virgin Mary.

The local events also give the town its own cultural profile. The carnival procession featuring the symbolic burial of the double bass is one of the regularly held cultural and sporting events. “Hudobné leto vo Vadičove” is another such event. “Váľanie mája” was also announced for 30 May 2026; visitors were invited to dance and sing with the Vajčovci folk group. This date has now passed, but it describes a documented part of the local events calendar.
