Oravice: Thermal Water, Valleys and Trails

Oravice combines thermal water with trails through valleys, peatlands and Tatranský národný park. The Juráňová dolina educational trail, the Peciská peat bog, Meanderpark and the ski park highlight the different sides of the destination.

Trails through valleys and peatlands

The Juráňová dolina educational trail begins at a crossroads in Oravice, leads through the Ticha Valley and returns to Oravice through the Bobrovecká Valley. Its circular route is approximately 8 kilometres long and takes about three hours on foot. The route through the Juráňová Valley has an elevation gain of 230 metres and is also suitable for families with children. The hiking route through the Juráňová Valley begins and ends in Oravice and also leads through the Bobrovecká Valley.

The Antona Kocyana educational trail has two clearly different routes: Route A is 14.6 kilometres long, while Route B is 3.2 kilometres long. Route A begins in Oravice and follows a paved forest road to the Ticha Valley. It has 22 stations, while Route B has nine stations. Route B leads across the Peciská peat bog, where an observation tower stands. An elevated wooden footbridge leads through the peat bog and through habitats of a fen and wet meadows. In the Oravice area, the deposition of sediments in the Peciská peat bog began about 6,000 years ago.

The protected Juráňová dolina area in Tatranský národný park lies south of the Oravice settlement, near Oravice. The gorge of the Juráňová Valley features steep rock walls, potholes, waterfalls and cascades. The trails therefore connect open peatland areas with a rocky gorge and wooded sections of the valley.

Thermal Water, Cycling and Winter Sports

Meanderpark Oravice includes a thermal aquapark that is open year-round. All pools in the aquapark use 100 percent geothermal water. The thermal pools in Oravice use thermal water with a high iron content. Meander Thermal & Ski Resort in Oravice also includes a bike park. Oravice Bike Park has four trails with a combined length of more than 10 kilometres.

In winter, Skipark Meander Oravice offers more than 12 kilometres of ski slopes. There is a separate children's ski area with a SunKID conveyor-belt lift. In summer, the ski park operates a cable car for pedestrians and cyclists. Another cycling connection is planned to link up with the relaxation trail and run along the Oravica to the mouth of the Ticha Valley.

The relaxation trail is connected to car parks at both ends and is suitable for visitors with reduced mobility. It therefore complements the hiking and cycling trails described above with a route documented as suitable for this group of visitors.

Chapel and Remembrance of Anton Kocyan

The chapel in Oravice was built between 1817 and 1820 and restored in 1864. A memorial plaque to Anton Kocyan is located on the building of the former forestry administration. A forester's station originally stood at this site, where Anton Kocyan worked.
