Location and local history

Kráľ lies in the southeastern part of the Rimavská kotlina Basin, in the valley of a left-bank tributary of the Slaná. This places the village geographically within the basin and alongside a tributary of the Slaná; its architectural history offers another way to explore Kráľ.

The first written mention of Kráľ dates from 1282. During the Turkish wars, the village was completely depopulated in 1680; it was resettled in the 18th century. This sequence connects an early mention with a clearly dated historical turning point and the later resettlement. The village’s buildings provide their own, more precisely dated reference points.

Church and manor house

The evangelical church represents 20th-century architectural history: its cornerstone was laid in 1969, and it was consecrated and handed over for use on September 17, 1972. The laying of the cornerstone and the consecration mark different stages and should not be combined into a single construction date. If you are interested in more recent architectural history, this sequence gives you a clear sense of the church’s timeline.

The Baroque-classical manor house dates from 1767 and was built on older foundations. It has two stories, a basement, and a U-shaped layout. The Chapel of St. Ladislaus, located in the right wing, was founded in 1753. The façade facing the park features a portico and a balcony. The U-shape describes the floor plan, while the portico and balcony characterize the park-facing façade. These details help situate the building in terms of its date, layout, number of stories, and façade elements.

The church and manor house offer different ways to explore local history: the church’s cornerstone laying, consecration, and handover place its construction phase in time. For the manor house, the focus is also on its date, architectural form, older foundations, and the chapel in its side wing. If you choose historic buildings especially for their architecture, this contrast between chronology and structural features offers a concrete comparison.

Village life and local traditions

Kráľ has a cultural center, a public library, and a stadium. If you plan to visit or use any of them, check the relevant opening and visitor arrangements in advance.

During a group activity on February 8, 2024, participants made traditional homemade noodles. They prepared Gágoríky and were then allowed to take them home. This specific activity complements the architectural history with a glimpse of local food culture and is tied to that date.

Football is also part of local life: TJ Družstevník Kráľ has a senior team and an under-15 youth team. Team structures can change, so check current club information if you plan to rely on these details.
