Halič combines a national cultural monument, a multimedia museum and historic buildings with protected park landscapes. This creates a destination where cultural history is not limited to a single building: Haličský zámok, the Múzeum Csontváry, churches, a former cloth manufactory and the grounds around the castle and pond each offer a different perspective.

Castle and Csontváry Museum

Haličský zámok is a national cultural monument. Guided tours of the castle include the representative Župná sieň with its original ceiling frescoes dating from 1762. Public tours take place on Sundays and Mondays at 13:00, 14:30 and 16:00; each tour requires at least six people. If you plan this visit, the fixed schedule is therefore an important part of the experience.

The Múzeum Csontváry offers its own perspective on the area. It is dedicated to the life and work of the painter T. K. Csontváry, as well as the history of Halič and its surroundings. Large-format projections, touchscreens featuring artworks and historical documents, a hologram of the Halič treasure and a virtual potter’s wheel present the subjects in different ways. The museum can be visited during opening hours; larger groups should register in advance.

Parks, Pond and Protected Landscape

Haličský lesopark is a protected natural monument. It was originally laid out in the French style, while naturalistic areas with a lake were added later. Zámocký rybník, with the Altánok Filagória, features a picturesque island and sun loungers. Zámocký park also offers picnics and boat trips under a romantic bridge to an original island. Cycling and recreational fishing are also among the activities mentioned there.

Historical Traces in Halič

The Forgách family burial site is a Neo-Romanesque funerary chapel dating from 1844. Its design was inspired by Egyptian pyramid structures. The burial site consists of limestone sections that were precisely worked before being transported to their destination. Another national cultural monument is the Roman Catholic Church of Nájdenia sv. Kríža, a Neoclassical single-nave church dating from around 1826.

The area’s industrial history is also visible. The first mechanical loom in Slovakia was installed in the former Halič cloth manufactory in 1867. The former cloth manufactory building itself is a Neoclassical structure from the early 19th century that was extended and remodelled around 1830. The Soľný úrad adds to this historic picture as a Baroque-Neoclassical building from the late 18th century; its gateway is dated to 1768. The restored Strážny domček houses a small railway exhibition and a TT-scale model of the railway station, both of which are open to the public.
